Parkland, Heartland bolster recruiting class

Catcher Brent Kuper (right), who helped lead Highland HS to the Class 3A state championship last year, has committed to Parkland College while Heartland CC landed another impressive right-handed prospect, Kevin Johnson from Champaign Centennial HS.

Prospect Watch: Wheaton North's Trey Martin

There are still a lot of top-level seniors who have yet to commit, and among them is Trey Martin, a 6-foot-3, 195-pound versatile athlete from Wheaton North HS. Martin, who helped lead the Falcons to a fourth-place finish at the Class 4A state tournament as a junior last spring, can play several positions well.

Four more players have made their college choices recently. Thornton Fractional South right-hander Kyle Zegarac (pictured right) is among them; plus Rend Lake College lands two and O'Fallon HS shortstop Keith Wolf picks his school ...

Adkins leads talented crop at PBR 2010 showcase

The Prep Baseball Report’s Class of 2010 Top Prospect Showcase on Dec. 7 provided further evidence that this crop of juniors is extremely strong and features a diverse group of high-level prospects, led by York HS right-hander Steve Adkins (right).

Top performers at PBR Underclass event

Players from across the state converged at Slammers Baseball Center in Lake Forest for the Prep Baseball Report Underclassmen I.D.  Showcase on Nov. 23. While there were many talented sophomores and freshman at the event, Jake Lanning from Rockton Hononegah HS came away with top prospect honors.

Dietrich Enns strikes out the final batter to lift the Griffins past Brother Rice for the title. ... Musically enhanced.
7. Rock Falls fans celebrate 3A state semifinal win
Jarred Hippen strikes out the final JCA batter, then Rock Falls fans clad in skimpy shorts celebrate the victory
8. Highland wins Class 3A state championship
Jake Odorizzi closes it out with 90-plus heat, and fireworks explode as Highland claims state title 
9. Ian Krol goes to work at Wrigley Field
The Neuqua Valley ace strikes out the side at Wrigley Field during the Under Armour All-American Game
10.  Anthony Andres' pickoff move
The St. Rita junior picks off the runner, but he gets the well-timed assist from the scorekeeper in the press box
