PLAYER SPOTLIGHT

  • Winston Rasmussen

Winston Rasmussen, Har-Ber (AR), Class of 2103:
Rasmussen is a physically strong 6-foot, 200-pound catcher who showed quick, concise footwork behind the dish.  He has a solid base and demonstrated quick, clean transfers with a pop time range of 2.07 – 2.12 and was clocked at 78 mph from the crouch.  Offensively, Rasmussen has a balanced setup and a strong lower half, using his strength to create some bat whip through the zone.  He took a short and explosive approach to the baseball and displayed good gap-to-gap power with his swing.

  • Nick Jones

Nick Jones, Park Hill Hs, Class of 2013: Jones is a 5-foot-9, 140-pound RHP who showed the ability to keep the ball down in the zone with all three pitches. The submarine pitcher showed a 71-72 mph fastball with late arm side run. Jones also showed a 65-68 mph breaking ball and a 65-67 mph change up. During the live batting practice session, Jones managed to keep hitters off balance with his ability to hit his spots and change speeds.

  • Burke Echelmeier

Burke Echelmeier, Fulton HS, Class of 2012:The lanky 6-foot, 155-pound Echelmeier showed to be effective behind the plate and on the mound. As a catcher, Echelmeier showed good receiving skills with a stiff wrist and fundamental blocking abilities. His top pop time was a 2.12. At the plate, Echelmeier has a quite set up with a smooth load, quick hands, and a level line drive producing swing. On the mound, the RHP Echelmeier showed a sharp curveball (67-71) and a sharp, late breaking slider, which has potential to be his best pitch if thrown with a bit more consistency. He also showed a 77-78 mph fastball and 69-71 mph change up with some sink.

  • Andrew Curry

Andrew Curry, Santa Fe HS, Class of 2013: Curry has a long, extremely projectable 6-foot-4, 185-pound athletic frame, one that has the potential to develop into a high-level body type as he physically develops. A two way player, Curry impressed in the outfield moving fluidly to the ball, and gets on top of his throws well, resulting in a strong (80 mph), accurate arm. Offensively, the left handed hitting Curry shows good gap-to-gap power, and would drive the ball harder with a more consistent lower half. On the mound, Curry's arm slot produced fastballs 76-78 mph with some late arm side run. As Curry fills out, look for a spike in velocity. Andrew has tremendous upside ad potential to be a big impact player.

Cort Lesmeister, Raymore-Peculiar, Class of 2013: Lesmeister flashed his potential as a two-way player with smooth hands and accurate arm on the infield, and 77-80 mph fastball on the mound.
