PLAYER SPOTLIGHT

  • Matt Scheibel

Matthew Scheibel, OF, Marquette HS, Class of 2014:
Scheibel is a physically imposing 6-foot-3, 200-pound player who showed some impressive power at the plate. Scheibel has a strong lower half with strong hands and looseness in his swing; the ball jumps off his bat with backspin carry. Scheibel showed the ability to hit the ball to all fields, with pull side power. He recorded the top exit velocity of the event at 91-mph. In the field, Scheibel showed fluid movements to the ball, getting in good position to throw. He did not throw due to some soreness in his shoulder, but should be ready for the start of the high school season.

  • Corey Chambliss

Cory Chambliss, OF, Oakville HS, Class of 2015:
Chambliss is an athletic 6-foot-1, 175-pound outfielder who showed quick movements to the ball, with good body control while playing through the ball. His arm works well, with accurate throws in the 75-79 mph range, a range we expect to see increase as his body continues to fill out. At the plate, Chambliss has an open stance with a long stride and good rhythm. He shows the ability to maintain a level swing plane and works the middle of the field well, with some glimpses of power.

  • Matthew Vierling

Matt Vierling, OF/RHP, CBC, Class of 2015:
While he only hit and pitched at the event, his scope of work and natural abilities have us wanting to see more of Matt Vierling. The projectable 6-foot-3, 185-pound Vierling showed a strong, loose arm on the mound, with easy effort. His fastball sat 83-85, topping at 86-mph with late sink action. With the way his arm works, there are a few more miles per hour in that arm. He also showed a 11-to-5 breaking a (78-79 mph) with near fastball arm speed and a 73-77 mph change up down in the zone with arm side run. At the plate, Vierling has a quiet, easy swing and the ball jumps off his bat. He takes an economical path to the baseball with extension through contact and hard line drives. He shows some strength in his hands (89 mph exit velocity) and looseness in his swing. As he continues to fill out his frame, Vierling has potential to be a power threat. While he did not throw from the outfield, his arm action has us believing that he has a strong outfield arm.

  • Logan Wiley

Logan Wiley, RHP/OF, Kickapoo HS, Class of 2015:
The lanky 6-foot, 155-pound Wiley continues to progress his skills throughout his participation at PBR events, and it has not gone unnoticed. On the mound, his fastball is now topping at 85-mph, up from the 82-mph we saw in the fall. He comes from a high ¾ arm slot with fast arm speed and a long, loose arm, and maintains that arm speed with his off-speed pitches. Wiley’s breaking ball had tight spin and sharp 10-to-4 shape, thrown in the 70-73 mph range. He also threw his change up in the 72-75 mph range with arm side movement.  On the outfield, Wiley impressed with his arm speed, showing some carry on his throws, with a top throw of 85-mph.

  • Ryan Kayhill

Ryan Kayhill, OF, Lee’s Summit West HS, Class of 2015:
Kayhill is a small bodied 5-foot-9, 145-pound outfielder who showed good action to the baseball with a clean exchange while keeping his momentum toward his target and playing through the ball, with a top throw of 75-mph. At the plate, Kayhill showed good rhythm and a good approach with a short compact swing that stayed level through the zone. He showed the ability to spray the ball to all fields. Additionally, Kayhill ran a 4.50 home to first.
