By: Zac Bottoms
Arkansas Scouting Director

The 2015 All-State Games are going to be hosted at University of Arkansas at Little Rock on October 31st and November 1st. These games are going to consist of the top players from all corners of the state. Here is a preview of some of the catchers the catchers competing in the games.

2016, C, J Paul Fullerton, Harding Academy
Fullerton is a 6-foot-1 185-pound left-handed hitting catcher with a large frame and an average build. Fullerton threw a 1.93-2.01 during the pro-style work out. He has a strong accurate arm with carry, he would benefit from staying online through the plate instead of working around the plate, but overall a solid defender. Offensively he starts from an open stance diving back into the plate, he does get back on line, and works through the ball with a downhill bat path. His swing mechanically is sound, I would like to see him take a bug guys approach and let the bat go a little more. Right now his approach is to be consistent singles hitter. Overall Fullerton is an advanced catch and throw guy with good instincts and leadership capabilities. He is short offensively to be considered a college ready hitter. Fullerton is committed to Harding University

2016, C, Austin Powell, Star City HS
Powell is a 6-foot 180-pound catcher with a medium frame and a physical build. He is a good athlete running a 7.19 in the 60. Powell threw a 1.81-1.96 pop time during the pro-style work out. He receives with soft hands and maintains proper arm angles. Offensively he starts from an athletic stance, and maintains good balance throughout his swing. He attacks the baseball with an uphill bat path and fast bat speed, producing exit velocities up to 92 mph. Overall Powell is an advanced catch and throw catcher with enough offensive aptitude to handle the catching duties early on at the collegiate level. Powell is committed to Arkansas State University.

2016, Greyson Pinkett, C, Conway HS
Pinkett is a 6-foot 175-pound catcher with a medium frame and athletic build. Defensively he starts with an athletic stance, and maintains proper arm angles while receiving the baseball quietly. He threw a 1.97, 1.97 and 2.03 pop times, working through home plate, with a quick exchange. Offensively he produced exit velocities up to 86 mph. His swing is a compact line drive swing that allowed him to keep the bat in the strike zone for a long time and hit the ball to all fields. He ran a 7.21 in the 60. Overall Pinkett is a solid catcher with enough offensive aptitude to play at the next level.

2017, C, Quinn Cherry, Harrison HS
Cherry is a 6-foot-2 170-pound C/OF with a large frame and an athletic build. He impressed with his bat spraying balls to all fields with a compact swing. He attacked the baseball with fast bat speed generating exit speeds up to 91 mph. Defensively he has a strong accurate arm. He threw a 1.97, 2.06, and 2.17. He throw times will be more consistent as he shortens his elongated exchange. He receives the ball with soft hands and maintains good arm angles. Overall Cherry is a physically gifted player that as he refines his tools, he will become a good collegiate player.
