Day one of Spring Break tournaments got off to a soggy start to continue the spring theme of 2015. However baseball prevailed in Central Arkansas, as I was fortunate enough to see six games on the day and am looking forward to another good day today.

Maumelle High School vs Bauxite High School
Maumelle defeated Bauxite 7-5in a back and forth soggy contest at 10 am. Maumelle scratched out 2 runs in the top of the 5th to seal the victory as the game was called due to a time limit. Both teams battled the elements as the game played in a steady rain.

Bauxite High School vs Pulaski Academy
Bauxite beat Pulaski Academy 7-5 in game two of the day. Bauxite threw unsigned senior Ben Madison, who was 86-88 with a slider with 10/4 action thrown at 73-76 mph. He struck out 4 in the first two innings, however he did walk 2.

Benton High School vs Sylvan Hills High School
With a score of 9-1 Benton beat Sylvan Hills. Benton received a complete game from 2015 LHP Ryan Rickford. Rickford pitched 6 innings scattering 6 hits, striking out 4 with 1 walk. Offensively the Panthers were paced by 2016 OF Colten Nix and 2016 C Brinson Williams. Nix went 2 for 3 with a home run and a walk while, Williams was 3 for 4 with 2 doubles. 2018 C Nick Farkouri was a bright spot for Sylvan Hills going 1 for 3 on the afternoon. Benton advanced to play Conway while Sylvan Hills will play Watson Chapel.

Conway High School vs Watson Chapel High School
Conway made short work of Watson Chapel beating them 10-0 in 4 innings. The Wampus Cats received a strong outing on the mound by 2015 RHP Bubba Carter (Arkansas at Little Rock commit). Carter pitched 4 innings commanding his fastball 86-89 mph with an 11/5 curveball with depth at 75-76 mph. 2015 LHP Justin Peirce, matched his work for the first two innings. After that Conway’s offense made some adjustments and took advantage of some costly Watson Chapel mistakes. Conway will play Benton in their next game, while Watson Chapel will play Sylvan Hills.

Lakeside High School vs North Little Rock High School
Zac and Chase Freeman sparked a 2 run 7th inning rally to push the Charging Wildcats to a victory over Lakeside 3-2. North Little Rock received a quality start from 2016 RHP Christian Goshen. He threw 6 innings giving up 2 runs, 1 earned, and 4 hits while striking out 4. Ben Bailey had a walk off single to seal the victory for North Little Rock including. In the top of the 7th Zac Freeman drew a walk later scored on a double by twin brother Chase. Chase scored the game winning run with Bailey’s single. Lakeside received a strong outing from 2016 RHP Jon Youngblood. He threw 6 innings striking out 10. At the plate he started hit a double and scored a run going 1 for 3 with a double. North Little Rock will play Jacksonville and Lakeside will play Alma.
