Greenbrier Defeats Benton in Extra Innings

Greenbrier defeated Benton 8-5 in the 9 innings on Monday, March 13, 2017 at Benton High School.

Greenbrier had a 5-0 lead after the top of the 5^th, they scored a run in the 1^st, a run in the 2^nd and capitalized with a clutch 2 out double by 2020 CIF Cayden Wallace who drove in two runs and later scored on an error to push the lead to 5-0.

In the bottom of the 5^th Benton began its comeback taking advantage of a tiring 2017 LHP Hunter Milligan who lost command walking a run in and allowing one run on a sacrifice fly by 2018 MIF Drew Chilton, leaving the score 5-2 after 5 innings.

Benton broke up the no hitter in the 6^th and scratched out two runs, leaving the score 5-5 after 6 innings. In the 7^th they worked out of a jam to hold the score to 5-4. In the bottom of the 7^th Benton scored the tying run a fielder’s choice and a Greenbrier error.

Both teams were held scoreless in the 8^th before Greenbrier 2019 CIF Andrew Johnson hit a single which drove in 3 runs to push the score to 8-5.

2017 MIF/RHP Ryan Flake shut the door on Benton to pick up the win Flake pitched 4 innings, allowing 3 earned runs on 6 hits while striking out 5. 2017 LHP Hunter Milligan received a no decision but was highly effective for 4 of his 5 innings of work. On the day he struck out 10 walked 5 and allowed no hits, and 2 runs.

Benton’s 2018 Yates Pricket picked up the loss but had a solid day, pitching 5 2/3 innings allowing just 2 earned runs on 6 hits while striking out 8.

Benton will travel to North Little Rock for a non-conference match up on Wednesday and Greenbrier will return to action Thursday at home as they host Mayflower in a non-conference game.
