Prep Baseball Report

Q & A with UALR Commit Hayden Weaver

PBR: Ultimately, why did you choose the University of Arkansas at Little Rock ?

Weaver: I decided to go with UALR because of the coaching staff. I love the plans Coach Curry has for the program, and how excited he is to be there. He reminds me of my high school coach by the way he carries himself and that was a big factor for me.

PBR: Where did they first see you compete?

Weaver: Coach Curry first saw me compete in Xtra Innings after my sophomore year.

PBR:  When did you take your first official visit University of Arkansas at Little Rock?

Weaver: I have not taken my official visit yet; I plan on taking it during basketball season. I went on an unofficial visit  on September 9th.

PBR: What role do the coaches expect you to play your first year on campus?

Weaver:They expect me to pitch in midweek games, and make huge gains in the weight room.

PBR: What other schools were you considering?

Weaver: I looked at Arkansas State for a while. I really liked the campus and I know some guys who currently play there, but I felt like I fit in better with Coach Curry and his staff.

PBR: Who did you play for this summer? Talk about your experience playing for them?

Weaver: I played for Diamonds Baseball Club based out of Central Arkansas. My experience with them was tremendous. Coach Mercado and Coach Hill played huge roles in getting me to UALR. They helped me with the recruiting process and told me what I needed to expect out of it.

PBR: Who has had the biggest impact on you as a baseball player?

Weaver: There are multiple people who make a huge impact on me as a baseball player. One is my grandfather who has recently passed away. He was always at my games no matter the situation. Another would be my father who taught me the mental aspect of pitching. The most important would have to be my mother. She made sure I was playing every year and got me to every game. She did all she could and more for me. I could not be more thankful for her.

PBR: What were your stats for your High School last spring?

Weaver: Record: 7-5, IP: 62.33, K: 72, ERA: 1.46, WHIP: 0.99, and OBA: 0.177

PBR: Who is the toughest hitter you've faced in Arkansas?

Weaver: The toughest hitter I have faced would have to be Paxton Wallace from Greenbrier. If you make a mistake against him he is going to make you pay for it.
