Underclassmen Showcase: Pitchers

By: Zac Bottoms
Arkansas Scouting Director

Our Underclassmen Showcase was hosted at Little Rock Christian Academy on October 4th. We had several talented players attend the event, we have looked at the top performers at Catcher, Infield and Outfield. Today we break down the pitchers.

Ty Gordon, RHP, Green County Tech HS, 2016
The 6-foot- 5 RHP may have been the biggest surprise of the day. He worked off his fastball of 80-81, it had good action with hard run for strikes on both sides of the plate. The velocity may not be there yet but it will come he has a quick clean arm. He needs to clean up some timing issues and get more extension but the body and arm are worth a look. His change up had arm side run but missed in consistently with it.

Cade Canada, RHP, White Hall HS, 2016
Canada is a 6-foot-4 200- pound RHP, with good pitchabilty. He located his fastball 79-81 mph on both sides of the plate. His curveball was the best of the showcase throwing it 66-68 mph with sharp 12/6 action. Mechanically is arm action is short and his rhythm is a little choppy. He does show signs that he can throw harder if he cleans up a few things. He has a distinct balance point and pretty effortless.

David Rainwater, RHP, Sheridan HS, 2017
The 6-foot-2 190 pound RHP, displayed an ability to command his fastball 81-82 mph with sink. His curveball is a work in progress, which he threw for strikes. His best secondary pitch was his change up. David threw it early in counts, it had arm side run and the velocity was 69-71 mph. His frame makes him an interesting follow over the next two years.
