Baseball Roundup - 3/16/15

Cherry Creek 6 Regis Jesuit 5

An early season match-up between 5A power houses, the two teams went back and forth all game and saw Cherry Creek come away with the victory in 8 innings.  The game was ugly at first with 8 errors being made in the first 4 innings. No. 13 2016 Nate Sweeney for Cherry Creek started the game and was wild early creating many opportunites for Regis to break the game wide open, but Sweeney settled down and was able to minimize the damage leaving the game after 4 innings down 3-2. Parker Jax and Andrew Chavez were a combined 5-8 for the Bruins, while Carter Van Gytenbeek, Nick Ulmer and No. 16 2015 and Kansas commit Blake Goldsberry threw 5 innings in relief surrendering 2 runs and combining for 7 K’s.  For Regis, No. 4 2015 and Rice Commit Brent Schwarz and No. 4 2017 and North Carolina commit Bo Weiss threw 6 innings and together racked up 9 strikeouts, 7 Regis players collected one hit each in Monday’s game.

Pine Creek 7  Legend 1

The Eagles run their record to 2-0 on the young season getting offensive help from Wade Council, 2-4 the only Eagle with a multiple hit game. No. 25 2015 and Stanford Commit Peter McEvoy and Toby Scoles combined to go 2-5 with 3 runs scored to help power the Eagle’s offense.  One the mound, a strong 5 2/3 inning performance from No. 31 2015 Conner Deeds, collecting 4 K’s and only giving up 4 hits. No. 10 2016  Brice Johnson came on late in the game to throw 1 1/3 innings and striking out 4 of the 5 batters he face.  Legend offensively had five players with one hit each and saw No. 59 2015 Jared Case and Dakota Marley combine for 5 K’s on the bump.
