Chatfield Chargers have perfect Spring Trip

PBR_CO caught up with Chatfield Charger's Coach Brandon Stone after their undefeated trip to Arizona.  The Chargers currently stand at 8-0 and ranked 3rd in the PBR_CO 5A rankings.

Prior to leaving for Arizona, what were your expectations for this trip?

Our players had set the expectations. They were to compete each game, to take one game at a time, and to stick to the process.

Reflecting on your first half of the season, what are your impressions of your team?

I really am blessed to be around these guys. We have quality individuals, which makes it a coach’s dream. I think we have a scrappy team that likes to compete and doesn't quit.

Did your team do anything different to prepare for this trip then previous seasons and spring trips?

We didn't treat it different in terms of game preparation and how we went about our business, but we did acknowledge it was different with the travel and experience. We allowed the time to soak those things in. It'll be something our guys never forget and we wanted them to enjoy that. But, when it came time we also prepared for each game like we do any other game.

What are one or two takeaways from your experience in Arizona that you will carry with you into the league season and hopefully post season?

We'll take away the ability to play a lot of games consecutively. It isn't easy to do and doesn't happen often outside of districts and state so gaining that experience is irreplaceable. Being able to go on the road, compete away from home playing quality teams and being around one another created great unity. Our families and friends traveled well and it was a great experience for the program.

Having coached in this tournament many times, I know the level of teams you played, Colorado does not always seem to get the same amount of publicity for its players as some other states. After your impressive showing do you feel Colorado has closed the gap on other states?

To be honest Jeff that isn't for me to say. I do know that there's immense talent in Colorado and across the nation. Having these spring tournaments around the country that brings schools together from different states is a great thing. It allows these talented kids to compete against each other and creates more opportunities for the development of the players.
