Fall Prospect Games Middle Infield Analysis

The Prep Baseball Report Colorado ran the Fall Prospect ID on September 12th and 13th at Highlands Ranch High School. 40+ players competed in games and a pro-style showcase for the PBR staff. Over the course of the next week, we will bring you positional analysis of the Fall Prospect ID. Continuing our look is the Middle Infield position.

Best of the Best:

Josh Schumacher, 2016, Rangeview High School, MIF
A 6-foot-0, 160-pound, left-hand hitting MIF who ran a 7.09 60. In the field he uses his speed to cover good ground up the middle and in the hole. He has smooth actions and good feet and delivers an accurate ball at 81 MPH. At the plate he stands tall and balanced. Hands are high in the zone with a high leg kick for timing. He shows good leg drive and the bat stays in the zone for an extended period of time. He showed good power to the right center gap and had an exit velocity of 83 MPH.

Zack Medina, 2019, High lands Ranch High School, SS/RHP
A 5-foot-9, 180-pound, right-hand hitting, two way player who ran a 7.9 60. An athletic player both in the field and on the mound who showed good hands and feet at shortstop. He moves well up the middle and had a 72 MPH arm velocity at this event. At the plate he hits from a balanced slightly open stance. A slight leg kick brings him square and he shows good leg drive through the swing, which produced an exit velocity of 80 MPH with good pull power. On the mound his hands start high and he delivers the ball from a controlled balanced position. He has a high arm slot and showed a fastball of 73 MPH with good control in and out. He also showcased a 64 MPH curve with good downward movement. He finishes falling off to the first base side.

Cody Beck, 2017, Brighton High School, MIF/3B
A 5-foot-7, 155-pound, right-hand hitting MIF who ran a 7.4 60. In the field he showed good feet and was able to round the ball and get in good throwing position. He has an accurate arm and threw the ball across the diamond at 76 MPH. At the plate he hits from a balanced stance with slight leg kick for timing. He generates an 85 MPH exit velocity with good leg drive and hip turn. He displays good bat control and gap to gap power.

Blake Hansen, 2017, Columbine High School, 2B/OF
A 5-foot-11, 155-pound, right-hand hitting two-way player who ran a 7.28 60. In the field he showed good glove work to his back hand side, he gets the ball in the throwing window quickly and had a 73 MPH arm velocity with accuracy. At the plate he hits from a wide slightly crouched stance. A slight toe tap starts a swing that shows good rotation and a long bat path through the zone. He had a 76 MPH exit velocity at this event.

Peter Lanting, 2017, Denver Christian High School, MIF
A 5-foot-11, 155-pound right-hand hitting MIF who ran a 7.3 60. In the field he looks very comfortable at both SS and 2B, he moves well in both directions and always gets himself square on his throws. He has a 68 MPH arm velocity at this event. At the plate he starts with a narrow stance. He has a long stride and hands drop slightly on his load. He shows good weight transfer and hits off a firm front side. He had a 76 MPH exit velocity with good bat control to the right center gap.

Tyler Meguire, 2018, Highlands Ranch High School, 2B
A 5-foot-6, 140-pound, right-hand hitting second baseman who ran an 8.06 60. In the field he showed good hands and was aggressive on balls hit at him. He has an accurate arm that produced a 67 MPH velocity across the diamond. At the plate he hits from a narrow crouched stance with a lot of upper body movement on his load. Weight and bat sweep through the zone and produced a 68 MPH exit velocity.

Nico Rodriquez, 2018, Columbine High School, 2B/C/RHP
A 5-foot-8, 130-pound, right-hand hitting multi-positional player who ran a 7.97 60. Rodriquez was all over the field at this event, at second base he showed good hands and feet and moves well up the middle. Behind the plate he has smooth actions and soft hands for receiving. He had pop-times of 2.18-2.25 with an arm velocity of 68 MPH and accurate throws to the bag. At the plate he starts balanced and ends up on his backside with his load. Good leg drive and hip rotation creates a 75 MPH exit velocity with good bat control and carry to the left center gap.

Noah Thacker, 2016, Mountain Ranch High School, 2B/RHP
A 5-foot-7, 145-pound, right hand hitting two-way player. In the field, he displayed soft hands and good anticipation of balls to his backhand side. He had an arm velocity of 73 MPH across the diamond. At the plate he starts with an early load, which has him loaded on his backside. His hands drop slightly on the swing and he has a sweeping upward movement through the zone. He had a 76 MPH exit velocity at this event. On the mound he has sound mechanics with a good balance point and over the top arm motion. He lands in-line with the plate and showcased a 76 MPH fastball and a 66 MPH curve with sweeping break to the right hand hitter.
