Inside the Numbers: Colorado's 2015 Commitments

By John Cackowski
State Director

The early signing period for 2015 prospects has come to an end and after crunching the numbers, this class looks to be one of the most high profile classes in the history of Colorado high school baseball. With all the numbers we’re bringing you, we will try to keep our baseline consistent and stick with Division I commits; who along with Division II prospects are the only recruits to sign National Letters of Intent this past week (Junior College NLI’s aren’t signed until January 15).

The 2015 class has already seen 23 Division I commits in the state of Colorado. To put that in perspective, that already nearly matches the 2014 class (34 Division I recruits). Another trend that is starting to take place is the out of state recruitment of Colorado prospects. Until recently only a few college programs went into Colorado to fill their roster, a lot of the good players were staying home.

Here's a look at what states are recruiting Colorado the heaviest at the Division 1 level for 2015

Texas: 4

New Mexico: 3

Ohio: 3

Colorado: 2

North Carolina: 2

Kansas: 2

Nebraska: 2

California: 2

Oklahoma: 1

Nevada: 1

Illinois: 1

Arizona: 1

Kentucky: 1

Mississippi: 1

Here is a look at total recruiting from 2014 and 2015 for Division 1 colleges:

Colorado: 8

New Mexico: 5

Nebraska: 5

California: 5

Kansas: 4

Texas: 3

Ohio: 3

Oregon: 3

Utah: 3

North Carolina: 2

New Hampshire: 2

Oklahoma: 2

Minnesota: 2

Nevada: 2

Illinois: 2

Arizona: 2

Kentucky: 1

Mississippi: 1

Hawaii: 1

Arkansas: 1

Tennessee: 1

It's plain to see that the opportunities being brought to Colorado high school baseball players are expanding and it will be interesting to see how much more this trend continues over the next several years.
