Elizabeth, CO - Fort Morgan defeats Elizabeth 2-1

The Fort Morgan Mustangs made the 2 hour trip to Elizabeth on Monday to take on the Cardinals in an important 4A Colorado 7 league match-up. Both teams were 9-0 in league, and the winner in this game would take a huge step towards a potential league Championship. On the mound for the Mustangs was LHP 2016 Kyle Daniels. The soft lefty kept the Cardinals offense off-balance all day with an array of curveballs and perfectly located fastballs pitching a complete game and spreading out 8 hits.   Not to be outdone 2016 RHP 2015 Sean Herr. Herr was equally as effective after he settled in after a tough first inning, but was able limit the damage only giving up one run. Herr would pitch a CG as well only giving up 6 hits. The Mustangs would get their two runs at the benefit of errors in the first and 6th innings. The Cardinals would have their chances. In the Top of the 5th down 1-0 the Cardinals would have 5 runners reach base, but they only came away with one run due to being gunned down at 3rd base, and at home. In the top of the 6th the Mustangs would get an infield hit from Kenny Keller, a walk by Trey McBride, and with two outs Adrain Marquez would reach on an error scoring the eventual winning run. The Mustangs are now 12-3 on the season, and the Cardinals fell to 11-4. Both will have rematch on Wednesday 4/22 and the winner of that game due to tie breakers most likely will be crowned league champion.
