Littleton, CO - Rock Canyon (10-1) defeated Heritage (7-4)

The Rock Canyon Jaguars and Heritage Eagles played a tight Continental League game on Wednesday until the top of the 7th inning when the Jaguars scored 6 runs to put the game away. The Jaguars got a gutty performance from No. 35 RHP Bryce Dietz. Dietz had an assortment of pitches that pounded the strike zone leaning heavily on a tight slider that kept the Eagles off balance most of the night. The Jaguars struck first with a 1st inning leadoff 3B from 2015 Army commit Josh White. The Jags would manufacture a run in the first to take a 1-0 lead. White would strike again in the 2nd with a double and then be driven in by 2016 Daryl Myers to take a 2-0 lead. In the bottom of the 2nd 2016 1B Dalton Thorpe hit a monster 2-Run home run over 385 feet to right center to tie the game 2-2. No. 23 2016 Billy Moreland was on the mound for the Eagles. Moreland would surrender the lead back to the Jaguars in the top of the 3rd. No 36 2015 and Xavier commit Chris Given would lead the inning off with a walk, and his brother No. 29 2017 Matt Given would single him in taking a 3-2 lead. After a scoreless bottom of 3rd, the Jaguars would extend their lead in the top of the 4th with a leadoff 2B from 2016 OF Trevor Howard, and a sac fly from Josh White. In the same inning the Myers would walk, and Chris Given would get a base hit and they were both driven in on an error at shortstop taking a 6-2 lead. The Eagles were not finished. 2016 Jack Brouillette and Thorpe would both single and score, and in the bottom of the 6th No. 4 2017 C Casey Opitz would generate a run all by himself by singling to left, advancing to 2nd on an error, stealing 3rd and scoring on the catchers overthrow cutting the Jaguars lead to one 6-5. The Eagles could not capitalize on that momentum, and the Jaguars would socre 6 runs in a sloppy top of the 7th winning 12-5 to go 2-0 in league. The Eagles would drop to 0-2 in league after starting their season 7-1. The Jaguars will travel to Castle Rock to play Douglas County on Friday 4/10, and the Eagles will host Mountain Vista on the same day.
