Prep Baseball Report

Q&A with Preseason All-State Participant: Jake Eissler

By Jeff Markle
Assistant State Director

Prep Baseball Report Colorado is getting ready for the start of the high school spring baseball season with the Preseason All State event on February 22nd at Slammers South.  Over the course of the next two weeks we will showcase several of the participants at this year's event.  Continuing our look is Jake Eissler, No. 3 Ranked Colorado and No. 67 Ranked National 2016 RHP/3B, TCU Commit from ThunderRidge High School.

PBR:  Describe yourself as a baseball player to those who have never seen you play:

Eissler:  I would describe myself as a hard nosed player who wants to win. I never take my opponents easy and I don't take losing easily. I've come up with a pretty talented group of guys so it is always competitive on and off the field.

PBR:  What would be your dream school to play baseball at?  If you have already committed to play at the next level, why did you choose that particular school?

Eissler:   I have recently committed to Texas Christian University. I chose this school because I absolutely loved the campus and the surrounding area around it. The baseball program is top-notch, coming off the World Series from last year. I love the coaches and I believe I will make very good bonds with them when I get out there. Coach Schlossnagle is a very decorated and intelligent coach, and Coach Saarloos knows the game very well and I get along extremely well with him. I am very excited for the opportunity and can't wait to get down to Fort Worth. Can't beat those southern girls either!

PBR:  What are your best assets on and off the field at this point in your high school career?

Eissler:  On the field, I lead by example and don't take no for an answer. I love competition and I make very close bonds with all the guys on the team. I like keeping the positive atmosphere on the field because that's what sets us up for the best opportunity to win. Off the field I make smart choices and stay on top of my classes. Number one priority is classes; I would not be going to TCU if it weren’t for my grades. I love supporting the other sports at ThunderRidge during the year as well because I want people to also come out to baseball games during the spring. It's a special feeling to be a part of a school that is bonded like a family.

PBR:  What does your off-season preparation look like this year compared to you freshman year?

Eissler:  Freshman year I wasn't ever really in the weight room, and I played football during the fall. That was the last fall I played football, and this year has consisted of explosive speed and strength training at Steadman Hawkins with Eric Telly and Loren Landow. I again can't stress how important that is, and again I would not have the opportunities I do without the sacrifices those guys have made for me. I was in there four times a week for probably around 2 and a half months straight.

PBR:  What is the best baseball advice you have received and try to follow to this point in your career?

Eissler:  The most important part about baseball is knowing that the game applies to more than just what you do in between the white lines. The game has taught me respect, leadership, teamwork, and how to compete in the face of challenge and adversity, and these are values that I will be able to take into the real world after my time with the game is up. I believe the game has put me in a great situation to succeed in the future, whether it's on the diamond or in the workforce.

PBR:  What are your superstitions or routines that go on during a season?

Eissler:  I'm an extremely superstitious player when it comes to baseball, and I don't really like to share what those things are just because that goes along with it.

PBR:  What are your goals for:

This Season:  Get a state championship for ThunderRidge. Make the all-state team. Throw a few shutouts and hit some home runs.

Two Years: Hopefully be in the starting rotation at TCU and play in the field when I'm not pitching. Big 12 championship and national championship would be nice too!

Four Years:  Who knows, we all want to play at the next level. Hopefully I'll get drafted and get my chance at the Show. If not, I'll probably be enlisting in the military, that's my dream after baseball.
