Q&A with Underclass Invitational Participant Harris Williams

Prep Baseball Report Colorado is ready to hit the ground running in 2016 with two major events. The Underclass Invitational event at Slammers South will take take place on January 31st. Over the coming weeks, PBR Colorado will introduce you to 2018 and 2019 players who have committed to this event. Continuing our look is 2018 OF/C, Harris Williams of Denver North High School.

PBR: Describe yourself as a baseball player to those who have never seen you play:
Williams: I am extremely athletic, well built and fast. I move well in all directions and am a great communicator. I consider myself to be a team leader and a gap to gap hitter. I enjoy being around all my teammates and coaches.

PBR: What would be your dream school to play baseball at? If you have already committed to play at the next level, why did you choose that particular school?

Williams: Pepperdine or Stanford. Both are great academic schools in beautiful settings. I can visualize myself at Pepperdine because the coach was a hitter when he played I feel I will have things in common with him and he will be able to help me become a better player.

PBR: What are your best assets on and off the field at this point in your high school career?
Williams: I think my best assets are that I am a hard worker and fun to be around. I play baseball because I love it. I love to practice, I love to work out and I love to compete. I always give my best on and off the field.

PBR: What is the best baseball advice you have received and try to follow to this point in your career?

Williams: My Slammers coach, Billy Martin has always reminded me that failure is a part of the game. You have to shake it off and be ready for the next play.

PBR: What does your off-season routine look like to prepare for the upcoming season?
Williams: Off-season, I do a lot of hitting on my own. I work out with a trainer to make the physical gains necessary to take me to the next level.

PBR: What are your superstitions or routines that go on during a season?
Williams: My routine for getting ready to bat is to knock off the dirt from my cleats, set myself up in the box and stand there relaxed waiting for the pitcher to wind up.

PBR: What are your goals for:

This Season: Every at bat is a quality at bat and to improve my knowledge in the outfield.

Two Years: To be committed to a college and be fully prepared for college.

Four Years: To be a significant starter on my baseball team and to be confidently working toward my major.
