Q&A with Underclass Invitational Participant Nico Rodriquez

By Jeff Markle
Assistant State Director

Prep Baseball Report Colorado is ready to hit the ground running in 2015 with two major events.  With the Underclass Invitational at Slammers South just two weeks away, limited spots are still available for this event.  Over the next two weeks, PBR Colorado will continue to introduce you to 2017 and 2018 players who have committed to this event.  Continuing our second round look at registered players is Nico Rodriquez, 5-foot-6 110-pound MIF/RHP, 2018 from Columbine High School.

PBR:  Describe yourself as a baseball player to those who have never seen you play: nico

Rodriquez:  I would describe myself as a competitive, hardworking team player

PBR:  What would be your dream school to play baseball at?

Rodriquez:  Air Force Academy or ASU

PBR:  What are your best assets on and off the field at this point in your high school career?

Rodriquez:  The ability to be focused both on the field and in the classroom

PBR:  What does your off-season preparation look like this year compared to you freshman year?

Rodriquez:  Off-season preparation started sooner this year than in years past. I have increased intensity in core and speed workouts and for the first time incorporated weight lifting as part of off-season workouts.

PBR:  What is the best baseball advice you have received and try to follow to this point in your career?

Rodriquez:  "The most important play in baseball is the next one." This means to learn from the past both on and off the field, and to be a better player and person.

PBR:  What are your superstitions or routines that go on during a season?

Rodriquez:  Have the same warm up routine every day. These differ slightly between games and practices but remaining consistent is important. As for superstitions I need to have the fingertips cut off my batting gloves.

PBR:  What are your goals for:

This Season:  Overall goal this season is to get stronger and faster. Would also like to maintain batting in the  #1 or #2 batting lineup. As for classroom goals it is to maintain a 4.0 GPA

Two Years:  Starting Varsity and to keep getting stronger and faster in all aspects of the game. Have and maintain a 4.0 GPA.

Four Years:  Playing at either AFA or ASU
