Top Prospect Games: Day 2 Notebook

By John Cackowski

The 3rd annual Top Prospect Games at Cherry Creek High School brought close to 70 of the best baseball players in the 2018 and 2019 classes with a few select 2020 players. Players came from Durango, Otis, Woodland Park, Pueblo, Fort Collins, Colorado Springs, Wyoming, and up and down the Front Range. Below are some highlights of Day 2 of Top Prospect Games.

Cole Winn, Silver Creek, RHP, 2018
Winn was the buzz of the 2nd game today. The Notre Dame commit fastball was consistently 90-91 with good down angle, but Winn touched 92 on multiple occasions. Slider was nasty at 76-77 mph with late depth. With his body and frame he projects to plus 95 mph easily.

Victor Lara, Columbine, 2B, 2018
The switch hitting Lara is a hitting machine. At the plate he went 5 for 5 on the weekend. Lara's bat stays in the hitting zone a long time. Sprays the ball both directions but showed power as well with double in gap. If he can gain some more speed he is an interesting prospect going forward.

Zach Paschke, Mountain Vista, MIF, 2018
Paschke showed off his speed today running a 4.13 home to first to beat out an infield hit, and next ran a 11.28 home to 3rd on a triple in the gap. Paschke fits the mode of a kid who looks like a baseball player.

Kevin Mackintosh, Cherokee Trail, RHP, 2018
On the mound Mackintosh was solid for two innings. Good down angle on the ball, short on backside to high 3/4 arm slot. Fastball was 82-83 with sink. No one could barrel the ball. Curveball was 68 with 11/5 late tilt.

Justin Olson, Pine Creek, 1B/LHP, 2018
You can see the raw power he has at the plate. Very strong kid. All weekend balls he would front foot, he would still hit ball hard somewhere because of his strength. The Kentucky commit has a big presence on the mound. He doesn't overpower you with a 82 mph fastball, but the curve ball plays and has deception with late break.
