Top Prospect Games Q&A with: Thomas Fox

By Jeff Markle
Assistant State Director

The Colorado Top Prospect games are just one month away and we would like to begin to spotlight some of the participants at this years event.  Over the course of the next four weeks Prep Baseball Report Colorado will run Q&A's with many of the participants giving you a chance to get to know them better.  Continuing our look is Thomas Fox, 2017, 5-foot-9, 185-pound, 2B/OF from Bishop Machebeauf High School.

PBR:  Describe yourself as a baseball player to those who have never seen you play:

Fox:  I am the most hardworking player on and off the field. I always show 100% effort and hustle at all times. I am a line drive singles hitter that always hits the ball hard as well as a strong-armed outfielder with good range.

PBR:  What would be your dream school to play baseball at?  If you have already committed to play at the next level, why did you choose that particular school?

Fox:  My dream school would be Rice University, combining a very good Academic school with a very strong baseball program

PBR:  What are your best assets on and off the field at this point in your high school career?

Fox:  My best assets on the field would definitely be my hitting approach and my strong arm, I always want to hit the ball hard and in correct and timely places to score runs and help my team win. My accurate and strong arm helps to limit runners from taking extra bases on hits and tag ups.  My best assets off the field would be my academics and my work ethic. Schoolwork comes first and I make sure to achieve great academic grades. My work ethic is what makes myself stand out; I always am working on my game at all times during the year, especially the off-season. In short, I am the first at the field and the last off because I love the game so much.

PBR:  What is the best baseball advice you have received and try to follow to this point in your career?

Fox:  My hitting coach told me, “It is not about making 1 good swing during games and batting practice, but making all swings great” I try to follow this by preparing myself to make each swing better than the one before and even if I make a mistake I need to make an adjustment to make a better swing the next pitch.

PBR:  What are your superstitions or routines that go on during a season?

Fox:  Hitting off a tee before every game or batting practice…I feel that if I don’t then I might not get a hit for the day or my swing would have a major flaw that I could not fix during a game.

PBR:  What are your goals for:

This Season: Improve and fine tune every aspect of my game as well as have fun playing baseball

Two Years:  Have committed to a great college, being mentally and physically ready for the next level, and excited to continue my baseball career

Four Years:  Attending a great college and playing baseball consistently, making it into the lineup and being an impact player
