Top Risers in 2018 Colorado Rankings

By John Cackowski

With our recent 2018 rankings update reaching 50 players, there were many players that moved up, and also were new to the list. Below is a look at some of the top risers and newcomers after the fall baseball season. Our next 2018 rankings will be posted after our Underclass Invitational event in January where we expect to see many more new players that will shake up the overall rankings.

RHP Kevin Zapanta (Overland High School) was new to our rankings and already cracked the top 10 at No. 6. The PBR staff came away impressed with the 6-foot, 150 pound RHP when we saw him in the Fall Diamond Classic Tournament pitching for Slammers Martin.  Zapanta was 81-83 mph with a long loose arm and a strike thrower. He's competitive on the mound. Solid mechanics at high 3/4 arm slot.

C/OF Ryan Hutchinson (Heritage High School) had a solid summer and fall for Colorado Khaos playing on their 17U team. Hutchinson started on varsity his freshman year, and is starting to make some noise for himself as a solid run producer in his class.

Other newcomers to the list were No. 16 3B/RHP Zach Dammel (Highlands Ranch) who had a strong fall and showed well for Slammers Heller this fall in the PBR Fall Diamond Classic. Coming in the top 25 at is No. 19 RHP Jack Baird (Legend High School) who looks to get time on the mound this spring. No. 25 OF Garrett Martin of Standley Lake also was new to the list.
