Prep Baseball Report

Unsigned Senior Spotlight: RHP Ryan Blackwood, HRHS

John Cackowski
State Director

Recently Prep Baseball Report sat down with unsigned RHP Ryan Blackwood of Highlands Ranch. Blackwood is a 6-foot-3, 165-pound prospect uses long arm action through two different slots, an almost submarine arm angle and he can come over the top, with minimal effort in delivery, pounds the strike zone from both angles and pitches to contact, fastball has good run and sat 78-80 mph topping at 82, curveball was 66-68 mph with gradual 11/5 action, showed a 72 mph changeup. In the Southern Prospect Games he worked 4 Innings during the event collecting 3 k's and surrendering only one hit. Uncommitted Senior is an interesting prospect especially when you consider he has a lot of room to get stronger.

PBR: What schools have expressed interest in you?

Blackwood: Concordia University-Nebraska, Lakeland College, North Carolina A&T, North Carolina Central

PBR: Have you taken any visits, or have any visits scheduled in the near future? If so, what schools, and how recently?

BlackwoodI'm going to visit Concordia in November as well as West Texas

PBR: Are you looking for anything in particular in a school? (Example: high academics, certain academic program, local, etc.)

Blackwood: I want a school that has a good business department where I could get a degree in.

PBR: How did you do your junior year? What were your high school statistics? And how did your team do?

Blackwood: Our team did pretty well we struggled mostly in pitching and somewhat hitting. We ran out of arms late in the season and that showed in our record. I didn't throw all that great this spring but I did have a few very good games.

PBR: What are you goals for your senior season?

Blackwood: I want to be one of the leaders of the team and take the team to playoffs. I want to do my best and get our teams wins as well as keep us close as a program.

PBR:  What travel team do you play for? Are you playing fall ball with a team?

Blackwood: I played with Slammers Colorado as well as Texas Prospects

PBR: Do you play any other sports?

Blackwood: I used to play basketball up until last year where I quit to get better in baseball.
