Weekly Ranking Report

Weekly Rankings Report:

Week of April 28- May 3:

5A:

This was one wild week in the 5A baseball world, we several match-ups between top ranked teams that gave us just a taste of what we might be in for come the middle of May.  Regis takes over the top spot after holding steady at #2 for several weeks.  Regis is riding an 11 game win streak and has proven they can win in a variety of ways.  Lead by seniors, Max George and Regan Todd, the Raiders have positioned themselves well going into the last week of the regular season.  The Raiders also got a huge boost as their #1 pitcher David Peterson made his comeback complete from a broken leg early in the season.

The big mover of the week belongs to the Fairview Knights, moving up to the #2 spot after joining us last week at #6.  Fairview currently sits at 16-1 and 9-0 in league play, lead by Jeff Clarke’s .562 avg. and 36 hits, the Knights have scored 182 runs this year while only surrendering 46.  The Knights will look to ride the hot bat of Clarke and the arm of Ryan Kokora (7 W’s, 55 K’s) deep into May.

The majority of our 5A fun was brought to us by the Jeffco League; where we saw a match-up of # 1 Chatfield vs. #3 Columbine in the middle of the week with the Rebels prevailing.  The big surprise of the week belonged to Arvada West who is knocking on the door of our top 8 and made some serious noise by sweeping Columbine, Chatfield and Ralston Valley.  5A should take notice of the wildcats!

Others in the rankings but need to introduction are Rock Canyon and Bryce Dietz (.60 era), Cherry Creek and Grant Farrell (.442 avg.) and Grand Junction Central with Michael Price (5 W’s 58 K’s).  All three of these teams seem to be playing their best baseball here at the end of the regular season as they tune up for post-season play.

4A:

This week had just as many big moments as 5A and brought us many of great games.  Windsor keeps rolling along with 9 straight wins a 16-1 record and a perfect 13-0 in their league.  The Wizards have 2 games left against Northridge this week before they turn their attention to the post season.

The Evergreen Cougars volt into the top five with a perfect week this week, a big win by Brock Burke over Wheat Ridge sparked the Cougars to a 3-0 week and into contention for the Jeffco League title.

We also see two more additions to our weekly rankings, Montrose, lead by Tyrus Lopez and Joe Kastendieck, Montrose is making noise from the Western Slope.  Longmont makes their first appearance in the PBR top 8.  Will Amen (5 W’s and 38 K’s) has the Trojans looking to climb the rankings ladder this week.

Look for more shuffling as the last week of the regular season unfolds.  The top 8 are heavy with teams from just a few leagues who will match-up this week.  All of this is great foreshadowing for a post season that is just around the corner.

3A:

This week we see a shuffle at the top of the rankings.  The Eaton Reds take over the top spot sitting at 14-0 and having scored 179 runs to date.  The Reds who seem to score double digits at will, have one major test waiting for them at the end of the regular season as they take on #4 Faith Christian to close things out.  In a match-up of the top 5 this week, Holy Family and Faith Christian split a double header.  This moved both teams just behind Eaton, but proved that they are ready for the post season.  Gunnison and Valley held their same positions as last week.

2A and 1A:

These two classifications see the same teams still holding on to the top spots.  2A finds Swink continuing to play good baseball and ready themselves for the end of May.  1A has been battling the weather as much as each other.  Stratton holds on to the top spot and looks to finish the regular season on a strong note.
