2017 Recruiting Trail: Some Solid RHPs to Keep an Eye on

By Justin Burgess

This week we will focus on a few quality pitchers who, if not already, will likely be D1 prospects in the near future. All of these arms are right handed and sit in the mid 80’s with solid off speed. Hopefully we will see these players committed by this time next year.

Garrett Hunter Ruth RHP/OF, Buchholz HS 2017

Ruth is a two-way guy that has a lean, athletic, and projectable body at 6-foot-2 165 pounds. On the mound he has an over the top arm action, everything stays in line, and he has a quick windup. Garrett’s fastball sits 84-86 mph, his slider is 73-75 mph, and his changeup is 70 mph.

Daniel Federman RHP/OF, Archbishop McCarthy 2017

Federman is 6 feet 170 pounds with an athletic, lean, and wiry body. He is a quick twitch guy with a quick arm action. He throws from a high ¾ slot and his fastball sits in the 84-86 mph range. He also shows a good 71 mph changeup that has good, late action and he keeps the same arm speed as his fastball.

Christian Santana OF/RHP, Mater Academy 2017

Santana could be a two-way guy that hits and pitches at the next level. At the plate he has a flat swing, uses his lower half well, and has gap power. On the mound he has a simple delivery, stays in line, and has a long, loose arm action. His fastball sits in the 85-87 mph range and he has a 74-75 mph curveball that has good depth.
