Tampa, FL – In pool play of the 2017 Saladino Tournament, the Lennard Longhorns matched up against the Jesuit Tigers that had the Longhorns take an early lead, but quickly lose as the Tigers answered back and never gave up the lead after the bottom of the first. 2017 OF Danny Izquierdo put the Longhorns on the board with an RBI single, but after 2018 SS McGuire Weaver scored on a sacrifice fly for the Tigers, 2017 3B Thomas Bencivenga drove a ball deep over the left field wall for a two-run homerun to put the Tigers up 3-1.

Izquierdo delivered another RBI single for the Longhorns in the third to cut the lead to 3-2, but the offense would come to a halt and the Longhorns would fall 5-2 after the Tigers drove in two more runs in the fourth and sixth. 2017 1B/3B Jake Jones was a catalyst for the Tigers offense all night as he went 3-for-3 with two doubles and two runs scored. 2018 OF Joel Brewer drove in the final run for the Tigers as he laced an RBI single up the middle following one of Jones’ double in the sixth to push the lead to 5-2. 2017 RHP Price Sartor came in for the seventh and shut down the Longhorns lineup quickly to end the game.

2017 RHP Drew Martin threw six strong innings for the Tigers and earned the win by striking out six and allowing two runs on two hits. With the win, the Tigers moved to 2-0 in pool play and will take on Gaither HS at 7pm on Wednesday. The Lennard Longhorns are set to go up against Sickles HS Wednesday at 4pm.
