Boca Ciega survived a late comeback from Lakewood as they were able to walk away with the 6-5 victory. Boca Ciega was led by 2016 RHP Marlin Lagesse who went 6 1/3 innings, giving up three earned runs and striking out two. At the plate the Pirates were led by 2017 OF Ryley Casson who went 3-4 with two stolen bases and three runs scored, and 2015 Nick Adams who went 2-3 with a hit by pitch and two RBI’s. Lakewood’s 2015 1B/RHP Donovan Pink went 3-3 with a walk and two doubles. The Spartans were without Bo Bichette who not only is the best bat on their team but one of the best 2016 bats in the country.

The Spartans struck first in this contest when 2016 Sonny Neuman reached second on an error and was driven in by 2017 Sean Thornton. The Pirates responded in the bottom of the third when 2015 Tully Allen drove in a run with a sac fly and Adams drove an RBI double to right center.

The Spartans were able to tie the game up in the top of the fifth but the Pirates quickly responded with three runs in the bottom half to take all the momentum back. Adams had an RBI single in the bottom of the sixth that proved to be key for the victory. Lakewood was able to put up three in the seventh, one run coming off the bat of Pink who hit a deep double off the wall to left, but the Spartans fell short and Boca Ciega was able to come away with the win.
