Key Essentials to Every Good Defensive Player (CIT):

By: PBR Staff

·       Confidence defined as belief in ones ability. I would say confidence should always precede success.  Good defensive players visualize themselves making the play.  They want the ball hit to them in the crucial moments during the game.

·       Instinct is defined as an innate, typically fixed pattern of behavior in animals in response to certain stimuli.  In baseball, one might define it as the ability to foresee or anticipate a reaction of a pitch, ball off the bat, or the ball’s response to different surfaces, prior to it happening.   A pre-pitch routine is vital in preparing for the various scenarios that may occur (i.e. knowing speed of runner, reminding yourself or a teammate of the number of outs, knowing the count).

·       Technique is defined as a skillful or efficient way of doing or achieving something.  In baseball, technique when executed properly yields a fundamental appearance otherwise described as “Actions”.
