ST. PETERSBURG – Even though they’ve had a down year this season, Northside Christian showed tonight why they will likely be an exciting team watch over the next few years as they were led by mostly freshmen in their 2-1 win over Clearwater Central Catholic. 2018 RHP/OF Nic Daniels led the way by throwing a complete game and striking out eight. Offensively, the Mustangs were led by 2018 SS Ty McGeehan who went 1-3 with an RBI double, and 2018 C/UTL and South Carolina commit Charlie Welch who went 1-2 with a walk and RBI.

The game was scoreless until the bottom of the third when Northside Christian was able to score both of their runs. McGeehan struck first with his RBI double that was roped down the right field line, and Welch hit a two-out RBI single to left. These runs would ultimately prove to be enough for Daniels.

The only run Daniels gave up was in the top of the fourth when the leadoff hitter of the inning was able to single, eventually reach third, and score on a groundout to second. The last three innings, however, Daniels cruised through as it appeared he was getting stronger and more confident as the game went on. Daniels produced a 1-2-3 inning with two strikeouts in the seventh to clinch the victory for the Mustangs 2-1.
