Pro Insider: Corey Wimberly

Prep Baseball Report sat down with Cory Wimberly as part of our “PRO INSIDER” series. Corey, a Jacksonville native and former 6th round pick out of Alcorn State by the Colorado Rockies in 2005 as a MINF.  A 10-year veteran, Corey is currently with the New Britain Rock Cats (Minnesota Twins Double AA Affiliate). Corey Wimberly

PBR:  Being a veteran in the clubhouse, you have a lot of experience to share with younger guys getting acclimated to playing professional ball. If a 22-year-old Corey Wimberly were to walk thru the clubhouse doors, what advice would you have for him?

Corey:    I would tell him that it's a long season so stay humble, stay positive, and play every pitch like it's your last one because you never know when that may be!

PBR: What drives you to continue to overcome adversity such as injuries?

Corey:    I was blessed with enough athleticism that I think position changes actually make me more valuable as a player so I see that as a plus. The more you are around the game you start learn the business side if it and you see how situations play out, injuries you can't control they happen it's a part of the game. Being traded means that someone wants you so they trade for you that's not a bad thing I try to always see the good in the situation and not focus on the bad!

PBR: What advice would you give a High School Senior who has not received a scholarship offer at this point in their career?

Corey:    Dreams come true if you believe in yourself and you have the drive to go for your dreams anything is possible "ANYTHING"

PBR: Fans can really tell you are having the time of your life, whether it’s the pre-game Ozzie Smith backflips, or your infectious smile. How do you maintain this spirit during the daily grind of bus rides and ice tubs?

Corey:    I tell people all the time baseball isn't a game you can like and play you have to love it. No matter what's going on in my life when I get on the field it's like I'm freed of everything. It’s definitely a grind but I enjoy all the work you put into before and after just to have your peak performance day after day.

PBR:  If you were not playing professional baseball, what would you imagine yourself doing?

Corey:    The easy thing to say would probably be coaching, but I tend to believe without baseball I would imagine myself dreaming big in some other field like law school or maybe a broadcaster
