Every Friday National Scouting Supervisor Nathan Rode provides a roundup of insider recruiting information and commitments throughout the PBR coverage area: The Buzz. CLICK HERE to take a look at this week’s National Buzz. With that in mind, let’s take an in depth look at the Illinois prospects who have committed to colleges, with detailed scouting information.

Kristofer Armstrong, RHP, Benjamin, 2018
Florida

Kristofer Armstrong9/12/15 - 6-foot-3, 185 pound RHP/SS with a tall loose athletic body. Has good infield actions with solid mechanics and soft hands. Light n his feet for a big guy. Lacks ideal range for the middle of the infield but would be a very good 3B down the road. Good left handed swing with strength and quickness already. Good balanced finish. Has present power with much more to come. Made a lot of hard contact. In 3 at bats he smoked a line drive to RF for a single, smoked a line drive to RF for a double, and got robbed on a deep fly ball to CF. Ran a 7.39 60. On the mound his fast ball was 87-90 with late sink and good downhill tilt. Curve ball was 72-74 mph with tight ¾ tilt. Flashed ML average. The change up was 71-74 mph with good arm speed and fade to it. He has a big take away and lands slightly across his body. Strike thrower with all 3 pitches. A legitimate 2 way guy. Should become a 2018 draft. Has good blood lines. Father pitched in the big leagues. Older brother was a first round pitcher out of Vanderbilt.

Tim Elko, 3B, Hillsborough, 2017
Mississippi

3/9/15 - 6-foot-3 200 pound first baseman with a lean strong body with a strong lower half, and projectable. At the plate he has a slightly open stance, low hands, a small separation and a good hand load. Stays inside the ball well with a nice swing plane. Short/quick swing and hits with authority to all fields.  Up the middle/ backside approach.  Makes plays in the field and can pick it at first.

Garrett Sheppard, C, Tampa Jesuit, 2017
Coastal Carolina

7/13/15: Uncommitted incoming junior. 5-foot-10 175 pounds with a lean and compact body with strength. He has a quick transfer and short, over the top arm action. Plenty of arm to catch at the next level and throw from multiple arm angles. Moves well and is an aggressive player. 1.95 pop time. At the plate he is slightly open, gets a good separation, and his hands come down with his load. He has a short, quick swing and consistently squares up balls. Line drives approach and the ball jumps off his bat.

Brendan Mafnas, RHP, Riverview, 2016
Daytona State

6/5/15 - Uncommitted rising senior. 6-foot-2 185 pounds with a lean, athletic, projectable, and strong body. Simple motion and stays in line. Compact arm action from a high ¾ slot. Doesn’t use much lower half. 81-84 mph fastball and a 67-70 mph curveball.

David Luethje, RHP, Vero Beach, 2018
Florida
