Riverview Wins Big Over Spoto 12-2

By Justin Burgess

Riverview was clicking on all cylinders against Spoto as they rode a strong starting pitching performance by 2016 RHP/INF Jordan Leasure and swung the bats well all the way through the lineup. Leasure went four innings and allowed no runs on only two hits. Offensively, the Sharks were led by 2017 OF and Florida commit Justin Farmer who went 3 for 4 with a 2-run HR, and 2015 C/INF Bailey Neer who was 2 for 3 with a 3-run HR and 4 RBI's.

The Sharks wasted no time getting started as Farmer led off the game with a single to left, stole second, and was driven in by Neer who hit a single to left. Neer was then driven in by Anthony Gonnella who roped a double to right, and he was driven in by Garrett Bye who reached on an error. Bye was also able to score off a double hit by Collin Lowe. In the bottom half, 2015 OF and South Florida signee Chris Chatfield roped a single to right and stole second but was left stranded. Spoto trailed 4-0 after the first inning. After a scoreless second and third, Riverview's Evan Colantuoni drove in Lowe and Leasure with a double. After a Farmer single, Neer hit his 3-run home run to left to give the Sharks a 9-0 lead. The Spartans had two batters reach base in the bottom half but could not score. In the top of the fifth, Bye led off with a walk, Lowe reached on a single, and Bye was able to score after a wild pitch and passed ball. Farmer was then able to put the Sharks up 12-0 with a line drive 2-run home run to left. In the bottom half of the fifth, Spoto showed a little life by scoring two runs off the bats of Daniel Rosario,

Nico Areizaga, and Deshawn Doby who all reached on singles. However, the Spartans could not extend the game and fell short 12-2.
