South Florida Underclass Games Positional Breakdown: 2019s

The Underclass Games is one of PBR Florida's top event in the state. Featuring some of the top underclassmen, this event was held in south Florida at Florida International University where players went through a pro-style workout and a simulated game.

Today we look at the 2019s in attendance:

Paul Sustachek SS / 2B / Wiregrass Ranch, FL / 2019

Thin, wiry frame standing at 5-foot-9, 130 pounds with some athleticism. Showed a balanced setup and some good hand-eye coordination at the plate with quick hands. His swing can get a little long at times, but displayed the ability to make consistent contact during batting practice. Registered a 77 mph exit velocity in the cage. In the field he fielded the ball cleanly and out in front while also showing the ability to make the plays ranging to his right and left with his throws topping out at 78 mph across the infield.

Daniel Navarro OF / SLAM, FL / 2019

Lean frame standing at 5-foot-9, 130 pounds with some athleticism. Balanced setup at the plate with a simple swing that showed the ability to use all of the field while making consistent contact. As he continues to strengthen and mature, he will see a jump in his gap-to-gap potential. Registered a 74 mph exit velocity in the cage. In the outfield he shows a good first step to the ball while fielding it out in front. Throws showed some accuracy to the bag from right field topping out at 76 mph.

Amante Mancini LHP / OF / Calvary Christian Academy, FL / 2019

Projectable, athletic frame standing at 6-foot, 175 pounds. From a ¾ slot he featured a fastball that sat in the 76-78 mph range along with a 72-73 mph and a 70-71 mph changeup. Worked with a good pace during gameplay pitch down in the zone to the outside corners of the plate. As he continues to fill out his frame he should see a jump in velocity. He also displayed a deceptive, quick pick-off move that kept runners close to the bag. 

Cordell Porcher C / OF / Miami Palmetto, FL / 2019

Stands at 5-foot-11, 175 pounds with an athletic, projectable frame. Slightly open stance at the plate with a short, quick step for his load. At times he can drop his hands below the zone, but when he stays on plans and level with his path, he showed the ability to drive the ball into the outfield. Also registered an 84 mph exit velocity in the cage. Showed a quality setup with balance behind the plate where he showed accuracy on his throws to second and third base with his throws topping out at 71 mph. Pop times ranged in the 2.25-2.26 range. 

Bryan Amparo OF / 2B / SLAM, FL / 2019

Lean, projectable frame standing at 5-foot-11 150 pounds. At the plate he has a big leg kick for his load and quick hands. Registered a 77 mph exit velocity in the cage. At times he can let his hands drop through the zone, causing his to get under the ball. As he stays more level through the zone, he will see an increase in his in his ability to square the ball up for more consistent line drives. In the outfield he fielded the ball under control with his throws topping out at 71 mph to the bag. In the infield he showed the ability to bounce to his left and right while making the play with his throws topping out at 70 mph across the infield.

Noel Garcia SS / 2B / Coral Gables, FL / 2019

Stands at 5-foot-8, 149 pounds with a lean, compact frame. The switch hitting middle infielder showed the ability to make contact from both sides of the plate while registering an exit velocity of 78 mph. From the right side he can get a little long, but shows quick hands. From the left side he showed a more balanced setup with a smooth swing that resulted in multiple line drives during batting practice. Showed good actions in the field while fielding the ball out in front and under control. His throws were accurate to the bag and topped out at 80 mph.

Boris Pena C / OF / Mater Academy Charter, FL / 2019

Long, lean, projectable frame standing at 6-foot-2, 160 pounds. At the plate he showed a balanced setup with a level path through the zone that produced multiple lines drives during batting practice. Shows a feel for the barrel and used all of the field. Also registered an exit velocity of 82 mph in the cage. Behind the plate he showed a flexible, athletic setup and received the ball well as his throws to the bag topped out at 74 mph with pop times in the 2.01-2.02 range. Projectable, young catcher with more power to come at the plate as he continues to fill out.

Diego Mendoza C / Coral Springs Christian Academy, FL / 2019

Strong, solid frame with a catcher’s build standing at 5-foot-9, 185 pounds. Slightly open stance with a big leg kick for his load during batting practice with a strong swing that resulted in multiple hard hit line drives into the gaps during batting practice. Squared the ball up numerous times and registered an exit velocity of 85 mph in the cage. Behind the plate he receives the ball well and showed a quicker release with pop times that ranged in the 2.06-2.06 range. His throws to the bag were also accurate and topped out at 75 mph.

Caleb Jimenez C / 3B / Land O' Lakes , FL / 2019

Strong, solid frame standing at 5-10, 171 pounds. At the plate he showed the ability to make hard, solid contact on the ball with authority. Strong hands. This was also represented with an 88 mph exit velocity in the cage. At times he can be out in front on the ball. As he learns to stay back and let the ball travel into the zone with better utilization of the lower half, he will see more consistent line drives. Behind the plate he showed some accuracy on his throws to the bag topping out at 67 mph with pop times in the 2.32-2.33 range.
