Tampa Prep Walks Off on St. Francis (NY) 10-9

TAMPA – St. Francis traveled down from New York to take on Tampa Prep in what was a back and forth game that eventually was won by Tampa Prep 10-9. The Terrapins won in walk off fashion when 2016 3B/C Geraldo Miranda-Rivera drove in the game-winning run with a sacrifice fly to left field. Miranda-Rivera also had an RBI double in the game. 2016 INF/RHP Jonny Corning went 2-4 with a double and two RBI’s and 2018 1B/LHP and FSU commit Chase Sanguinetti went 2-4 to also help lead Tampa Prep.

St. Francis struck first by scoring three runs in the top of the third. Jerry Hickson roped an RBI single, another run came off a sacrifice fly, and Shawn Wagner had an RBI single. The game remained 3-0 St. Francis until the bottom of the fifth when Tampa Prep was able to score three of their own to tie the game. Miranda-Rivera drove one in on an RBI double, Corning had an RBI double, and 2015 OF/LHP Matt Hodges had a sacrifice fly.

The game went back and forth from the bottom of the fifth until the bottom of the seventh as the Red Raiders scored two in the top of the sixth and the Terrapins scored three in the bottom half to have a 6-5 lead going into the seventh. In the top of the seventh, St. Francis scored four to take a 9-6 lead, but Tampa Prep came back with four of their own to win 10-9.
