#10 Fort Myers Standouts: 16u

By Doug Freeman
Florida Scouting Director

This week some of the top 16u teams from around the state came together to compete in Ft Myers. In one of the last tournaments of the summer there were quite a few standouts. Led by two Florida State recruits in 3B Brandon Howlett (George Jenkins HS, FL) and RHP Jack Anderson (Tampa Jesuit, FL). Also standing out, SS Andres Antonini (North Broward Prep, FL), SS Jacob Josey (Palmetto HS, FL) and SS Austin Knight (Bolles HS, FL).

Check out their scouting report below and for the entire breakdown of the standouts this week check out our SUMMER SCOUT BLOG

Brandon Howlett, 3B, George Jenkins HS, FL (2018)
Florida State recruit the No. 10 overall player in the 2018 class is a physical 6-foot-1 190 pound third basemen who continued to prove why he has been so highly touted. He has a very aggressive approach with plus bat speed while being able to use a strong lower half and stay balanced throughout the swing. The ball jumps off of his bat and the advanced approach as well as the aggressiveness to the balls in the zone show why he will continue to be one of the top players in the 2018 class.

Jack Anderson, RHP, Tampa Jesuit HS, FL (2018)
Florida State recruit. At 6-foot-2 170 pounds he worked at 86-88 mph on the fastball with a loose easy over-the-top arm actions and late life. He has a good feel for pitching, holding runners, pace of the game and more advanced tendencies for his class. His slider worked at 73 mph with tight spin and late action. He is a projectable arm with above average feel who will continue to get better as he gains strength and utilizes his strong lower half.

Andres Antonini, SS, North Broward Prep HS, FL (2018)
Uncommitted, (now committed to Pittsburgh) the 6-foot-2 185 pound switch hitter was impressive on multiple occasions during the week. He has a projectable frame that will continue to fill out, confident smooth actions at shortstop with a good first step. At the plate there is good rhythm in the setup with a somewhat stiff load, but the swing is short and quick from the left side with present gap-to-gap power. Athletic, projectable, switch hitting middle infielder makes him very interesting.

Jacob Josey, SS, Palmetto HS, FL (2018)
Uncommitted, (now committed to Florida Atlantic) the 5-foot-11 150-pounder has good actions at short, with average range, a good first step and enough arm to stay at the position he was very solid throughout the week making multiple plays. At the plate he has a short level swing and consistently put a good path through the zone to the ball. He has some present gap-to-gap power and should get more as he continues to get stronger going forward.

Austin Knight, SS, Bolles HS,FL (2018)
Uncommitted, (now committed to Tennessee) the high waisted 6-foot-1 170 pound shortstop isn’t overly flashy, but just seems to make all of the plays and have solid competitive at-bats. He has above average range, with an average arm and good hands that should see him staying at short. He was very solid defensively all week on nearly everything hit his way. Offensively, he has a compact level swing with a good approach and some gap-to-gap power. He still has room to fill out and continue to get better. Overall a very solid all around player.
