The Prep Baseball Report Iowa's Top Prospect Games took place on August 9th, 2015 at Duane Banks Field on the campus of the University of Iowa. The showcase featured prospects from the 2016 class who showcased their talents in front of our scouting staff, college coaches, and professional scouts.

The top middle infield performance at this year's IA Top Prospect Games was by University of Iowa commit and Council Bluffs Abe Lincoln product, Kyle Crowl. Crowl stood out with the improvements he has made offensively, strong arm across the diamond and gains he has made speed-wise.

Callen Bertrand, OF/SS, Dallas Center-Grimes, 2016
5-foot-9, 150-pound right-handed hitting outfielder/infielder. 6.82 runner. Solid athleticism. Aggressive swinger. Slight uphill set-up. Hands drift down in load. Gap to gap approach with solid pull-side pop. 82 mph exit velocity off tee. In outfield; avg./ok actions. Elevated throws at times. Longer arm action with above avg. accuracy to target. 80 mph arm strength. Solid infielder. Has good range. Fields deep in stance occasionally. Makes routine plays with accuracy across diamond. 78 mph arm strength.

Aaron Bohling, 2B, Louisa-Muscatine, 2016
6-foot, 160-pound right-handed hitting second baseman. 7.29 runner. Square stance. Hitch in load. Lifts pitches to pull-side. Pull approach. Leans back at contact. 72 mph exit velocity. Raw defensively. Fields deep in stance. Glove position is late. One piece arm action from low ¾ slot. 73 mph arm strength.

Braeden Brown, SS, Burlington, 2016
5-foot-9, 160-pound right-handed hitting middle infielder. 6.79 runner. Surprise player at event. Performed well during showcase; played extremely well in game portion. Closed stance. High hand-set. Swing down and through baseball with line drive swing plane. Loose hands with good separation after contact. Solid pop in bat to all fields. Gap to gap approach. 83 mph exit velocity. Plays with energy. Very good feet in field. Covers ground and fields out front with soft hands. Clean arm action with above avg. carry and accuracy to bag. 80 mph arm strength.

Cal Clark, SS, Cedar Rapids Prairie, 2016
5-foot-9, 150-pound right-handed hitting infielder. 6.97 runner. Rhythm in load. Square stride. Some length to contact with arm bar. Flat swing plane with consistent solid contact. Has good approach and works the middle of field with line drives. 82 mph exit velocity. Athletic defender. Shows good feet and fields out front with soft glove. Funnels occasionally. Needs to improve long release. Avg. accuracy to bag with 78 mph arm strength. 

Kyle Crowl, SS, Council Bluffs A.L., 2016
6-foot-2, 180-pound right-handed hitting shortstop. 6.91 runner. University of Iowa commit. Swing path has improved considerably over last year. More direct to contact with above avg. pop to pull-side of field. Pulls off occasionally. Ball comes off bat differently than most players state. 88 mph exit velocity. Good feet and hands defensively. Above avg. actions. Strong arm and solid body control will benefit him at third base in future. Throws are accurate with above avg. carry at 91 mph.

Ben Dotzler, RHP/SS, OA-BCIG, 2016
6-foot-2, 205-pound right-handed hitting 2-way player. Physical build. 6.9 runner. Strides across body. Stiff lower half in swing. Pull approach with raw power to pull-side. 92 mph exit velocity. Tall fielding position. Fields underneath. Does good job of working through baseball when fielding. Above avg. carry on throws at 80 mph.

Noah Heitshusen, 2B, Williamsburg, 2016
5-foot-10, 170-pound right-handed hitting infielder. 6.75 runner. Performed well during game portions with multiple above avg. defensive plays. Slightly crouched stance. Strides in-line to pitcher. Compact swing. Short to contact. Works middle of field. Solid consistent contact. 4.19 runner home-first. Above avg. 2-hole type bat. High glove position to start. Above avg. range. Shows ability to make above avg. plays with his athleticism. Plus accuracy to bag. Solid glove and feet. 78 mph arm strength.

Jacob Henry, 2B/RHP, Cedar Rapids Kennedy, 2016
5-foot-11, 165-pound right-handed hitting 2-way player. 7.32 runner. Simple swing. Slight shoulder load creating length to contact. Some stiffness in lower half. Handles middle/in well. Has present strength in swing. 84 mph exit velocity. Avg. feet and actions in field. Soft glove. Ability to make plays. Quick release. Solid accuracy. Sinking action to bag. 82 mph arm strength.

Parker Klimesh, SS, Winterset, 2016
5-foot-11, 175-pound left-handed hitting shortstop. 7.34 runner. Open to start. Late at times getting front foot down. Pull approach. Out and around at contact. Rotational lower half in swing. 82 mph exit velocity. Feet are heavy at times. Avg./ok glove. Avg. actions defensively. Solid accuracy from 1-piece arm action at 78 mph across infield.

Walker McDonald, 2B/RHP, Waukee, 2016
5-foot-11, 155-pound right-handed hitting 2-way player. 7.00 runner. Spread stance. Front heel turn trigger. Inconsistent load. Slight arm bar. Good approach and stays in middle of field. Line drive contact with flashes of pop in bat. 80 mph exit velocity. Works low to ground. Fields underneath occasionally. Solid glove and feet. Second base actions. Clean exchanges and quick release. Avg./ok accuracy to bag. 83 mph arm strength with avg. carry.

Cooper Merrill, SS/RHP, Clear Lake, 2016
5-foot-8, 160-pound right-handed hitting 2-way player. 6.64 runner. Quick twitch actions. Good balance and direction in swing. Line drive swing plane. Average power. Good approach and works middle of field. 79 mph exit velocity off tee. Shows good hands and feet in field. Accurate arm across. Light on his feet. Solid range. 84 mph arm strength across. Fastball is heavy with flashes of late life at 80-82 mph. 11/5 breaking ball with slider action. Changeup is firm with cut action.

Zachary Robeoltman, 2B, WDM Valley, 2016
5-foot-10, 150-pound right-handed hitting second baseman. 7.28 runner. Open stance to start. Strides square to pitcher. Some lift in swing plane. Uses whole field. Hard contact middle/away. 74 mph exit velocity. Active feet. Fields low to ground. Funnels baseball in. Solid glove. Avg. arm. Second base actions. Above avg. accuracy to bag with 77 mph arm strength.

Tyler Roeder, SS, Cedar Rapids Jefferson, 2016
6-foot-1, 175-pound right-handed hitting middle infielder. Easy load. Good balance and direction with lower half. Stays compact to contact. Some lift at finish. Uses whole field. Flashes strength in swing middle/pull. 81 mph exit velocity. Solid actions and ability in field. Good angles to baseball. Glove is soft. Good body control. Accurate arm across diamond at 81 mph. One of best un-committed infielders in state.

Joe Seuferer, SS/RHP, Saydel, 2016
6-foot-2, 165-pound right-handed hitting 2-way player. 7.25 runner. Tall closed stance. Stiff lower half in swing. Dead pull approach. Barrel out front at contact. Avg. power. 80 mph exit velocity off tee. Light and quick on his feet. Good actions in field. Aggressive confident fielder. Soft hands. Shows avg. accuracy to bag with solid carry at 79 mph.

Cal Stalzer, SS/RHP, WDM Valley, 2016
5-foot-10, 150-pound right-handed hitting 2-way player. 6.87 runner. One of better 2-way players in state. Slightly open to start. Strides across with front heel turn trigger. Shows good approach at plate and uses whole field. Hard contact middle/away with consistent solid contact. 84 mph exit velocity. Fields low to ground and through baseball. Above avg. exchanges and release. Above avg. hands. Throws show very good accuracy and carry to bag at 85 mph.

Jack Thode, SS, Janesville, 2016
6-foot-4, 175-pound right-handed hitting shortstop. 7.19 runner. High hands. Active load. Off time in stride occasionally. Shows good approach at plate. Best contact when stays in middle of field. 83 mph exit velocity. Aggressive fielder. Fields balls deep and across body. Solid work getting to spots. Needs to improve arm slot and release. Sinking action on throws effecting accuracy. 72 mph arm strength.

Judd White, SS, Dubuque Wahlert, 2016
6-foot-2, 175-pound left-handed hitting shortstop. Athletic build. 6.87 runner. Low hands in middle of body to start. Deeper load. Flashes good hand eye coordination to contact. Strong pull contact. Rushes load and swing occasionally. Simple fixes away from really improving with bat. 78 mph exit velocity. Light on his feet in infield. Flashes solid athleticism. Works through baseball with soft hands. Shows above avg. carry and accuracy to bag. 78 mph arm strength. In outfield shows average/ok actions with ability to make routine plays. Elevated throws to plate with limited momentum on throws. Avg. accuracy and carry to target. 80 mph arm strength to home plate.
