4A Glen Ellyn Regional: Glenbard East and Batavia Advance

GLEN ELLYN, IL – The Glenbard West regional semifinal games took place in a doubleheader due to yesterday’s rainout. In game one Glenbard East took down Glenbard West 14-3 and in game two Batavia beat Conant 10-3.

Game One: Glenbard East 14 Glenbard West 3

Glenbard East jumped all over Glenbard West scoring fourteen times in the five inning victory. The Rams first three hitters Ryan Schefske, Richard Maciopinto, and Michael Sebby combined to score ten of the teams fourteen runs.

Phil Abrizino drove in a team high three runs for Glenbard East and Joey Moore chipped in with two RBIs of his own. Michael Sebby drove in two runs on a two run homer in the bottom of the fourth.

Sebby got the job done on the mound working four innings allowing just one run while striking out four to pick up the win.

Grant Lalla doubled and scored a run for Glenbard West.

Game Two: Batavia 10 Conant 3 

In the nightcap 2017 RHP Glenn Albanese got the start for Batavia and impressed in the complete game effort.

Albanese, a Louisville commit, flashed premium stuff throughout his outing and got stronger as the game went on. He sat 86-88 topping out at 89 mph for the first five innings of work. In the sixth and seventh he turned it up to another level sitting 88-89 mph with his fastball. In the final two innings he faced eight hitters, striking out five of them. He put an exclamation point on the outing striking out the final hitter of the game with an 89 mph fastball.

The Batavia offense got on the board in the first on a solo homerun by Kyle Niemiec. The Bulldogs added two more runs in the second inning on an RBI double by Tyler Munoz and RBI single from Jared Martin. They broke the game open in the third when designated hitter Ben Lynam hit a two run single and Luke Beckmann followed Lynam with a two run homer.

In the fifth Conant got to Albanese when Mason Sykes doubled to score Jim McLaughlin and Nick Roberts singled in Jack Lunkes. Jimmy Brady drove in Sykes on a groundout to cap the Conant scoring.

Batavia and Glenbard East will meet Saturday for the Regional Championship.
