NAPERVILLE, IL – Mississippi State commit Austin Marozas is one of the top junior arms in the state, and he showed it on Thursday, leading Plainfield South to a 4-2 win over Minooka in their Sectional Semifinal game.

Marozas went the distance, striking out 10 Indians while allowing two runs on six hits and walking three.

The Cougars opened the scoring in the first when Nick Enloe hit a two-out RBI double to left, giving Plainfield South an early 1-0 lead.

Minooka cashed in in the fourth getting Marozas on the ropes. A two out chopper down the third base line went for a Brandon Rossiter double putting runners at second and third. Then Jackson Shepherd stepped up and delivered a triple to the left center gap chasing home two runs and giving Minooka a 2-1 lead.

However, the Indian lead was short lived as the Cougars answered right away in the bottom half of the fourth with a run to tie it. Nick Mayerhofer hit a hard ground ball to third that was unable to be played leading to the second Cougar run of the game.

Senior catcher Gabe Wair gave Plainfield South the lead in the fifth with a solo shot to right field, and Marozas took it from there. The Cougars would tack on an insurance run in the sixth thanks to some Minooka defensive miscues for a final score of 4-2.

Plainfield South advances to the Sectional Championship against O’Fallon on Saturday, June 4 at 11:00 am at Illinois Wesleyan.
