A Quick Recap of Sunday's Unsigned Senior Showcase

Steve Nielsen
Scouting Director - Illinois

Yesterday, Prep Baseball Report held its Unsigned Senior Showcase for all unsigned 2013 graduates. The event went well and was highlighted by strong pitching performances from many of the participants. With over 90 players in attendance and more than 30 colleges there were plenty of players who most certainly got noticed yesterday.

It was a good day for pitching as we saw a number of great arms take to the mound. The lefties stole the show as we saw projectable bodies that showed solid arm action from the left side. The group was led by David Schurr from Oswego HS who showed command of all three pitches and sat comfortably between 83-85 mph. Matt Testa, a Joliet Catholic Academy product, was 84-86 mph with a true slider touching 75 mph. Big bodied 6-foot-6, 235-pound Welby Malczewski from Prospect HS also was touching 86 a number of times from the left side.

The event also produced a couple of strong arms from the right side led by St. Laurence product, Zachary Lewis. Lewis sat between 85-88 mph while touching 89. Trayvon Johnson, from St. Joseph’s HS also showed a strong arm touching 87 mph.
