Chase Slota next in line of big arms at Lakes HS

WAUCONDA – For a smaller school tucked in northern Illinois’ Lake Villa, Lakes HS has produced its fair share on dominant arms recently.

It looks like junior right-hander Chase Slota is the next in line, following Nick Hibbing (now at Iowa) and D.J. Snelten (Minnesota/ drafted in ninth round by Giants).

The 6-foot-5, 220-pound Slota had yet another impressive outing this season, this time dominating host Wauconda, 6-0, in a North Suburban Prairie contest on Wednesday. Slota (5-1) tossed a two-hitter, struck out seven with no walks to keep Lakes (15-10, 8-2) tied for first place in conference.

Working predominately off his fastball, Slota retired the side in order in five innings, and finished the game with 10 consecutive outs. A Wauconda base-runner never reached second base in the game. In Slota’s last outing, he threw a one-hit shutout against previously ranked Grant.

Junior shortstop Bill Morris delivered a run-scoring single in the second inning to provide the only run Slota would need. Lakes added two more runs in the fourth, thanks to some sloppy Wauconda defensive play, and pushed three more runs across in the fifth. Senior catcher Joe Dahlke delivered the big blow with a two-run single.

Junior right fielder Brian Gross went 2-for-4 with a double and run scored, and senior first baseman Joe Sisk also had two hits for Wauconda.

More in-depth scouting notes about Slota’s performance will be posted in the Illinois Scout Blog later.
