Hard to believe, but the Class 2A and 1A state playoffs begin today with play-in games. Regional semifinals are scheduled for Wednesday/Thursday, with regional championships set for Saturday. The small-school state semifinals will once again be at Dozier Park in Peoria on June 6-7.

The Class 2A tournament is always filled with surprises, none more so than Lisle’s improbable run to the school’s first state championship last year. Will there be another Cinderella story this year? Or will perennial power like Teutopolis continue to collect big trophies?

Only time will tell. But until then, The Guru Drake Skleba and I peered into our clouded crystal ball and made our predictions. Here’s a look at a sectional by sectional outlook of the 2A field. While we have similar picks throughout, we have each crowned different champions.
