No. 9 St. Rita 6, Benet 5

Once again No. 9 St. Rita (2-0) took to the “Frozen Tundra”, this time at Benet Academy in Lisle Sunday afternoon. The Mustangs came home with a thrilling 6-5 win over the feisty Redwings. Mustang junior Jake Shepski broke up a 5-5 tie driving home the game-winner for the Mustangs.

No. 5 Normal West 10, Galesburg 0 (5 innings)

No.5 Normal West’s University of Illinois-bound RHP Matt James is back. After having his junior season cut-short by a bout with mono, James was perfect in his season-opening start on Saturday. James faced 15 Galesburg Silver Streak batsmen. Three hit the baseball. 12 did not. For James, it was his second perfect game in his illustrious career and he earned win No. 19 as a Normal West Wildcat.

Missouri State-bound Alex Jefferson, took care of the offense for his buddy James on Saturday. Jefferson singled, doubled, scored four runs and plated a pair. WIU-bound C Adam McGinnis had a two-hit day including a double and two RBI. Senior 1B Josh Appel went deep for head coach Chris Hawkins’ Wildcats.
