Catholic League Crossovers

St. Joseph 8, No. 2 Providence 7

St. Joseph (4-2; 2-1 White) won its greatest victory since joining the CCL by stunning second-ranked Providence in Westchester on Friday. Charger RJ Brown singled, doubled homered and plated five Charger runs. Joe DeLuna chipped in with two hits and had an RBI.

Providence (8-3; 2-1 Blue) was led by juniors, Phil Kunsa and Dylan Rosa. Kunsa doubled twice and had two RBI while Rosa continues his hot-hitting with a single double and plated two Celtic runs.

 Southwest Suburban Blue

No. 10 Lockport 5, Lincoln Way East 1

Lockport (8-3; 1-0) won its SWSC opener at Ed Flink Field in Lockport behind a three-hitter from SIU-Edwardsville-bound-LHP Evan Martens (2-0). Martens struck out 10 Griffin hitters in his complete-game gem. The game was originally to be played at L-W East but unplayable conditions in Frankfort led to the change in venues.

Heartland Community College-bound Porter catcher Derek Bangert hammered a two-run bomb in the fourth to give the Porters a 2-1 lead. The homer was Bangert’s third of the season. Red-Hot senior Jeff Duchene chipped in with an RBI single. Lincoln-Way East (6-2; 0-1) was led once again by red-hot Tommy Fuessel, who homered and singled for the Griffins.  

DuPage Valley

Wheaton Warrenville South 13, West Aurora 2

Wheaton Warrenville South (8-3; 3-0) swept away West Aurora behind Mitch Krafcheck, who homered doubled and plated three Tiger runs. Matt Walsh had two hits and two RBI. Hot-hitting Tiger leadoff man, Eric Giltz singled, doubled, scored three runs and drove in one to lead the Tigers to the sweep.

Baylor Holmes chipped in with a two-run bomb. RHP Rich O’Neil allowed two runs and six hits in six innings of work to pick up the win. 

Glenbard North 12, West Chicago 7

Glenbard North (5-4; 3-0) swept away West Chicago, to stay atop the DVC standings with WWS. AJ Seidler went deep twice and drove home four Panther runs to lead the GBN attack. Jeff LaPage singled doubled and drove home four runs to lead West Chicago (3-7; 0-3) 

No. 12 Naperville Central 11, Glenbard East 0

Naperville Central (7-2; 2-0) crushed Glenbard East in five innings on Friday. Redhawk senior RHP Jimmy Nashert fired a three-hit shutout with five strikeouts at the Rams. Nashert helped himself at the plate with two singles a double and an RBI. Creighton-bound SS Nick Lopez singled doubled scored two runs and plated two runs to lead the Redhawk onslaught.

Naperville North 4, No. 15 Wheaton North 3

Naperville North (5-4-1; 1-2) salvaged the final game of its opening DVC three-game series with WN.

Huskie LHP Bob Leonard allowed one run and six hits in his 6 1/3 innings of work to pick up the win for NN. Leonard fanned five. Ryan Krainz, Mark Khoury and Alex Garon all singled and drove home a Huskie run.

Wheaton North (9-2; 2-1) was led by Greg Scandora who had three singles in the game. Lake Bachar and River Williams each singled and plated a Falcon run.

Upstate 8 Crossovers

Bartlett 13, St. Charles North 2

Bartlett (5-2; 4-2 Valley) trounced the North Stars in five innings on Friday. Colin Nowak led the Hawk attack with a perfect 3-for-3 day at the plate with three runs scored and three RBI. Mike Vitulli also was 3-for-3 with two doubles and an RBI as was Mike Roberson who drove home two Hawk runs as well. RHP Doug Van Dyke fired a seven-hitter with one earned run to pick up the win.

Waubonsie Valley 7, Streamwood 6

Waubonsie Valley (5-5; 4-2 Valley) survived a 6-run Streamwood seventh and hung on to defeat the Sabres on Friday. Drew Elam homered singled scored two runs and drove home two runs to lead the Warriors. Ben Vietri added two singles and two RBI for WV.

Fox Valley Crossovers

No. 18 Prairie Ridge 10, Johnsburg 1

Prairie Ridge (9-3; 3-1 Valley) scored five runs in the bottom of the first and routed the SkyHawks in Crystal Lake on Friday. The Wolves Joe Van Doorn hammered a grand-slam in the PR five-run first to put a quick end to this game. Leadoffman Brian Klendworth singled doubled and tripled in three at bats scoring a run and driving home a run. Steve Ladd chipped with a homer and a single, scored three runs and had an RBI for the Wolves. University of Penn-bound LHP Mike Reitcheck fired a two-hitter with 16 punch-outs to pick up the win.  

Metro Suburban

Glenbard South 6, Elmwood Park 1

Glenbard South (7-2; 5-0) rolled past Elmwood Park on Friday. Carl Sanders singled, scored three runs and had an RBI to lead the Raider attack. Ethan Gasbarro added a single an RBI and two runs scored for GBS. Raider starting and winning pitcher Matt Anderson, allowed one run and six hits in his six innings. Anderson had the old strikeout pitch working, fanning 12 Tiger hitters.

Mid-Suburban Crossovers

Barrington 10, Wheeling 0

Barrington (5-7; 3-0 West) blasted Wheeling in five innings. Bronco starting and winning RHP Scott Nelson fired a no-no at the Wildcats. Nelson struck out one and walked a pair in his five-inning masterpiece. Jake Coon singled doubled and plated three giving Nelson all the runs he would need. Nelson was 2-for-3 at the plate.

Hoffman Estates 8, Hersey 4

Hoffman Estates (1-6; 1-2 East) rolled to its first win of 2013 behind Evansville University RHP Jimmy Ward. Ward allowed no earned runs and three hits in his six innings of work while striking out seven.

Zak Lewandowski was 3-for-3 for the Hawks with a double two runs scored and an RBI. Zach Hommowun had two hits and two RBI while Ethan Bloom chipped in with a double and two RBI.

Nonconference

No. 8 Nazareth 11, Guerin Prep 0

Nazareth (10-0-1) crushed Guerin Prep behind a one-hit shutout from sophomore RHP Mike Kogut (3-0). Kogut struck out 12 and walked one. Chaz Usher doubled and plated three Roadrunner runs and Kyle Piotrowski chipped in with a single and two RBI for Nazareth.

North Suburban Crossover

Libertyville 3, Antioch 2
No. 22 Libertyville (8-1-1) rallied past Antioch in eight thrilling innings in Libertyville on Friday. The Wildcats tied the game at 2-2 and then won it in the bottom of the eighth, sending the frozen Wildcat contingent home very cold but very happy. No. 9 hitter Noah Greenburg’s bases loaded walk put an end to the proceedings in Libertyville. Wildcat SS Jimmy Govern’s (1-for-3, RBI) groundout tied the game at 2-2 in the bottom of the sixth. Red-hot 1B Kevin Calamari added two doubles and an RBI for the Wildcats. RHP Andrew Mack fired three scoreless innings in relief with four strikeouts to pick up the win.

Stevenson 13, Grant 6

Stevenson (4-4) won for the second consecutive game, crushing Grant 13-7 in five innings on Friday.

The Patriots exploded for seven runs in the fourth inning to put this away. Tony Heiser was 3-for-3 with double three runs scored an RBI to lead the Patriots. Greg Voss was also 3-for-3 with a run scored and an RBI. Matt Goll had two hits and two RBI and Eric Naegele went deep in his only time at the plate.

Grant (7-3) was led by Ryan Noda who had two doubles a single and an RBI while Missouri-bound Jake Ring added a pair of hits including a double and drove home a Bulldog run.

Champaign Centennial 4, No. 9 Teutopolis 3

Teutopolis (12-2) were stunned in Champaign by the Chargers on Friday. SIU-bound RHP Kyle Pruemer (4-1) suffered his first defeat of the season. Pruemer went the distance for the Wooden Shoes allowing three runs and six hits with 10 strikeouts. Derek Smith went deep for T-Town

Andrew 4, Thornwood 0

Andrew (8-6) blanked the Thunderbirds behind a three-hit shutout by RHP Stefan Urosevic. Urosevic fanned six. Kevin Walsh and Zach Klockowski both had two hits and drove home a T-Bolt run.
