North Suburban Prairie

Vernon Hills 6, Round Lake 0
Vernon Hills (3-3; 2-0) defeated Round Lake 6-0 behind a combined no-no from Illinois State-bound LHP Tyler Feece and Cougar reliever Nick Newman. Feece did not allow a hit through six innings. The future Redbird had 14 strikeouts. Newman finished up the no-no in the seventh and due to a dropped third strike, struck out four Round Lake hitters in the inning. Feece tripled and drove home two to give himself all the support he would need.

Grant 12, North Chicago 0  
Grant (3-1; 2-0) crushed North Chicago 12-0 in five innings. Bulldog starting and winning pitcher Grant Cokefair (1-0) fired a no-hitter at the Warhawks. Danny Fairhat led the Grant attack with a single and two RBI. Grant’s Illinois State-recruit junior Simeon Lucas has erupted at the start of the 2013 season. The future Redbird is 7-for-9 with two doubles, two homers, nine runs scored and has driven home 13 Bulldog runs.

Nonconference
No. 4 St. Laurence 4, Notre Dame 0
St. Laurence (7-1) traveled 1,000 miles to defeat Niles Notre Dame in Bradenton, Florida on Wednesday. Viking senior RHP Zach Lewis (1-1) fired a one-hit shutout at the Dons with seven strikeouts.  Viking senior LF Nate Tholl had a double and an RBI and junior Mike Kornacker added a single and an RBI for St. Laurence. The Dons picked up their lone hit from Joe Kukla.

No. 7 Mount Carmel 5, Christian Academy (KY) 0
Mount Carmel’s junior LHP Rich Fordon was lights-out in Louisville on Wednesday. The junior lefty fired a one-hit shutout with 12 punch-outs to lead the Caravan to victory. Malik Carpenter was 3-for-3 with a double, scored two runs and drove home another to lead the Caravan attack.

No. 11 Alton 8, Waterloo 3
Alton (8-1) gave Waterloo (6-1) its first defeat of the season on Wednesday in Alton. Indiana-bound C Brent Gibbs had three hits, including two doubles and drove home a pair of Redbird runs. Senior Nick Droste singled, doubled and drove home a run for Alton. Alton senior RHP Charlie Howard (2-0), fired three scoreless innings, allowing two hits to pick up the win on the mound.

Libertyville 9, Palatine 8
Libertyville (4-1-1) outslugged Palatine behind the booming bat of Wildcat senior Matt Vogt. Vogt homered, doubled and drove home four Wildcat runs. Sophomore Jimmy Govern chipped in with a single and two RBI. Libertyville will host Maine South (4-1) today at 4:45. You can watch all the action LIVE on www.prepbaseballreport.highschoolcube.com. Joliet Catholic Academy 7, Divine Child (MI)
Joliet Catholic Academy (3-3) smashed the Hilltoppers’ guests from the Great Lake State on Wednesday. Senior RHP Ben Figura allowed four hits and an unearned run in four innings to pick up the win. Hilltopper senior 3B Jon Trotto had a single and two RBI and junior Rylan Bannon added two hits and an RBI for JCA.

Joliet Catholic Academy 11, Andrew 8
Joliet Catholic Academy (4-3) trailed 8-4 as the game entered the bottom of the sixth. The Hilltoppers erupted for seven runs to erase the four run deficit and go on to beat Andrew 11-8. Western Illinois-bound Chris Tschida tripled with the bases full of Hilltoppers for the big blow of the game. Tschida would finish with four RBI. Sophomore Nick Dalesandro chipped in with two hits and two RBI for JCA. Holy Cross-bound C Alex Voitik added a perfect 4-for-4 day at the plate with an RBI.

Andrew (4-5) was led by Michigan State-bound 3B Dan Durkin. Durkin had a double, two singles, scored three runs and drove home two T-Bolt runs. The Hilltoppers will host Lemont today at Gillespie Field at 4:30.

Morris 5, No. 15 Ottawa 3
Morris (6-1), fresh off the Redskins stunning 7-3 win over No. 10 Plainfield North on Monday, surprised the 15th-ranked Pirates on Wednesday. Senior Grant Davis had three hits and drove home two runs to lead the ‘Skins attack. Junior Grant Schluntz chipped in with a single and two RBI. Redskin junior starting pitcher Tim Smyk was the winning pitcher for Morris. University of Illinois-bound Mike Hermosillo led the Pirates with two doubles and an RBI. Pirate ace, senior RHP Jonah Morris (1-1) went the distance allowing six hits and five unearned runs. Morris finished with nine strikeouts.

Glenbrook South 7, Schaumburg 4
Glenbrook South (4-1) defeated Schaumburg behind a four-hitter from RHP Sam Koloms (2-0). Titan left-handed hitting Tommy O’ Hara had three hits and three RBI for GBS.  

Glenbrook North 17, Wheeling 5
Glenbrook North improved to 5-3 with the nonconference win on Wednesday.

Metro Suburban
Glenbard South 10, Fenton 0
Glenbard South (4-1; 2-0) smashed Fenton 10-0 in five innings on Wednesday. The Raiders were able to get the most out of their four hits. Nick Yangas had one of the four Raider hits and drove home three to lead the Raider attack. Ethan Gasbarro, Carl Sanders and Will Cornwall had the other three Raider hits and each had an RBI. Raider starting pitcher Mike Atkinson fired a four-hit shutout with six strikeouts at the Bison.

Mid-Illini
Metamora 14, Canton 1
Metamora (6-3; 2-0) crushed the Giants 14-1 on Wednesday behind the booming bat of Bradley University-bound Spencer Gaa. Gaa fell a homer shy of hitting for the cycle and drove home three Redbird runs. Redbird Alec Skender added two singles and a double and also plated three Redbird runs. University of Arizona-recruit Trent Johnson singled doubled and drove home two for Metamora. Metamora LHP Geremy Guerrero fired a five-hitter for the Redbirds. The Canton lone run was unearned.

North Suburban Lake
No. 5 Mundelein 10, Lake Forest 0
Mundelein (10-0; 2-0) swept away Lake Forest in five innings.

Warren 9, Lake Zurich 2
Warren (5-3; 2-0) swept away Lake Zurich behind RHP Andrew Hill, who allowed one earned run in his five innings of work to pick up the win. Mustang Dom Cuevas led the Warren attack with two hits and two RBI. Andrew Nickell added a double and two RBI.

Stevenson 12, Zion Benton 2
Stevenson (2-1; 2-0) swept away the ZBs in five innings in Zion on Wednesday. The Patriots were led by Mitchell Goll who had three singles and two RBI. Eric Naegele and Sam Harris added two hits and two RBI each. Jimmy Marchese chipped in with three hits and an RBI. Patriot RHP Jordy Sheinkop (1-0) fired a four-hitter at Zion Benton with 11 strikeouts.

South Suburban Blue
Tinley Park 14, Hillcrest 3
Tinley Park (5-1; 2-0) hammered Hillcrest to stay atop the SSC-Blue on Wednesday. Titan C Josh Simon was 2-for-2 with four RBI to lead the Titan onslaught. Titan starting RHP Matt Suarez and James Kelly each had 2-2 for days, with four runs scored and a n RBI. Suarez (2-0) fired a five-hitter at the Hawks with six strikeouts.

Lemont 10, TF South 3
Lemont (3-1-1; 2-0) swept away TF South 10-3 in Lansing on Wednesday. Junior Mike Wisz singled, tripled and drove home three Indian runs. LSU-recruit junior Mike Papierski had a single and two RBI. Fellow LSU-recruit junior Jake Latz singled, doubled and plated a pair of Indian runs. Senior RHP Joe Sambucci (1-0) allowed no earned runs and three hits in his five innings of work to get the win.
 
Southwest Prairie
No. 10 Plainfield North 4, Romeoville 1
Plainfield North (3-2; 2-0) cruised past Romeoville 4-1 on Wednesday behind a six-hitter from junior starting pitcher Jake Butler. Butler fanned seven in his complete game gem on Wednesday. Tiger senior Jay Roberts had a single and two RBI for North. Senior Zach Trusk added an RBI single for the Tigers. Romeoville (5-3; 0-2) was led by senior Mitch Zack, who had a single and drove home the lone Spartan run.

Minooka 4, Plainfield Central 2
Minooka (4-2; 2-0) scored four times in the bottom of the fourth, erasing a 2-0 Plainfield Central lead, and went on to the SWPC win. Indian senior Joe Carnagio had a double and the only Minooka RBI. Chris Costa had a perfect 3-for-3 day at the plate including a double. Senior Max Brozovich had chipped in with two singles and scored an Indian run. Minooka senior LHP Josh Mitchell (1-0) allowed two runs and five hits in his 4 1/3 innings of work to pick up the win. RHP Dom Matrisciano fired 2 2/3 scoreless innings in relief to save the win for Mitchell.
 
Suburban Christian Blue
Montini 6-3, Marian Central Catholic 0-2
Montini (4-0; 2-0) opened up SCC-Blue play with a huge sweep of MCC. In game one Ben Dobosenski fired five shutout innings allowing one hit to pick up the win. Austin Kline provided all the runs Dobosenski would need when he hammered a three-run bomb in the bottom of the first for the Broncos. In game two, Montini’s Chris Bartosz ripped a triple in the ninth that plated the game-winner and gave the Broncos the sweep. Bronco reliever Eric Frontzak fired five shutout innings of relief to pick up the win.
   
Nonconference
No. 12 Nazareth 7, Wheaton Academy 3
The Roadrunners improved to 6-0 with a nonconference win in West Chicago on Wednesday. Junior Jake Bartels led the Roadrunner attack with a pair of singles and three RBI. Senior RHP Kyle Piotrowski (1-0) fired five shutout innings allowing two hits and he struck out seven to pick up the win.

No. 17 Lincoln-Way West 5, Bolingbrook 2
In a Southwest Suburban Conference crossover, Lincoln-Way West (5-2) benefitted from six Bolingbrook errors and rolled to a 5-2 win. The Warriors were led by senior Luke Morgan and junior Jake Robbins, who each had two hits and an RBI for West. Warrior RHP John Saffrahn went 6 2/3 innings allowing no earned runs and striking out seven to pick up the win. RHP Morgan relieved Saffrahn with two outs in the seventh and quickly dispatched the final Raider hitter on strikes to nail down the save.

Moline 11, Peoria Notre Dame 9
Moline (4-3) outslugged Peoria in Moline on Wednesday behind the Maroons’ Drew Owens. Owens had three hits and drove home five runs for Moline. Maroon reliever Dallas DeVriez picked up the win in relief. Peoria Notre Dame (4-2) was led by C Matt Kouri, who was 3-for-3 with four RBI. Sophomore Andy Shadid also had a perfect day at the plate with two singles and two doubles. Shadid drove home a run. Shadid, one of the top 2015’s in the state is now hitting .591 with two homers and 11 RBI.

Crystal Lake South 6, Hoffman Estates 5 (from April 2)
Crystal Lake South (2-0) rallied past Hoffman Estates on Tuesday 6-5 in eight thrilling innings.The Gators scored single runs in the sixth, seventh to tie the game at 6-6 and then won it on junior 3B Mike Danka’s walk-off single that sent Gator fans home happy. Gator senior Troy Bittenbender hammered a solo shot and singled and Senior Tyler Hall added two hits and an RBI. Senior LHP Tyler Parquette (1-0) struck out four in his two hitless innings in relief to pick up the win.

Herscher 7, Clifton Central 6
Herscher (6-0-1) led 6-0 after 5 ½ innings at Clifton Central on Wednesday. Clifton Central scored twice in the sixth and scored four in the seventh, but the Tigers held on for a thrilling 7-6 victory. Tiger Logan Orr led the Herscher attack with a single and a double and plated a pair of Tiger runs. Austin Mandell and Braden Mahlstadt each had two hits and an RBI. Tiger senior C Eric Regez chipped in with two hits. Tiger 2B Mike Guimond went deep for Herscher.

Aurora Central Catholic 5, Lisle 4
Aurora Central Catholic (4-1) slipped past Lisle 5-4. Charger starting pitcher Michael O’ Donnell (1-0) pitched six innings to pick up the win. Charger closer Michael Fidler pitched a scoreless seventh to nail down the save. Fidler led the Charger attack with two hits and two RBI. Jake McCarthy chipped in with a double and two runs scored.

Mount Vernon 11, West Frankfort 1
Mount Vernon (10-4) rolled past West Frankfort behind red-hot senior Colten Meador. Meador had three hits and three RBI to lead the Ram attack. Senior Sawyer Harrison continued his hot hitting with two hits, including a double and two RBI. Senior Landon Thomas chipped in with two hits and three runs scored. Ram senior Trevor Flota (1-0), fired three scoreless innings to pick up the win.

Elk Grove 2, Jacobs 1
On the banks of Salt Creek, Elk Grove (3-1) scored twice in the bottom of the seventh to stun previously unbeaten Jacobs 2-1 on Wednesday. The bottom of the Elk Grove lineup won it for the Grenadiers. The no. 7 hitter Peter Arbov doubled home the tying run and he was followed by a walk-off single by Matt Wary, that sent the frozen Grenadier fandom home happy. Jacobs (4-1) was led by Aaron Meciej who had two hits and an RBI for the Golden Eagles.

Manteno 12, Crete-Monee 10
Manteno (4-0) outlasted Crete-Monee 12-10 in Manteno on Wednesday. Senior Kevin Sloat was 3-for-3 with three RBI to lead the Panthers. Junior DH Lucas Robbins added two hits with three RBI.

Naperville North 13, Waubonsie Valley 3
Naperville North (3-1) jumped out to a quick 9-0 lead after two innings and coasted past the Warriors. Ryan Kranz had two singles and a double, driving in a Huskie run and scoring two more. Mark Khoury had two hits, including a double, scored two runs and had two RBI for North. Naperville North RHP Colin Ash picked up the win. Ash went six innings, allowing two earned runs and six hits. Ash fanned four.

Wheaton North 9, York 0
Wheaton North (5-1) white-washed York behind a combined four-hit shutout from Lake Bacher and Andrew Slivinski. Both Bacher and Slivinski allowed two hits. Slivinski fanned seven and Bacher four. Morehead State-bound Ryan Kent was 3-for-3 with two singles and a double. Bacher helped himself with a single and two RBI. River Williams also plated a pair for Wheaton North.
