Mid-Illini

No. 14 Metamora 5, No. 25 Bartonville Limestone 2
Metamora (26-5; 13-1) scored four runs in the top of the second and let freshman LHP Geremy Guerrero and Trent Johnson do the rest as the Redbirds defeated Limestone (22-6; 13-1) on Wednesday night in Bartonville. Bradley University-bound Spencer Gaa led the Redbirds to a share of the Mid-Illini Conference championship with Limestone, when he doubled home a pair of runs in the four-run ‘Bird second. In the top of the sixth Gaa hammered a shot into the Bartonville skies over the left field fence.

Guerrero allowed two runs and five hits in his stellar five innings of work, and super-soph Johnson pitched a scoreless sixth and seventh to nail down the save for Guerrero. Guerrero improves to 7-0 on the mound and Johnson nailed down his first save of the season.   

Central State 8

No. 17 Springfield Sacred Heart-Griffin 9, Taylorville 0
SHG (23-5; 12-4) grabbed a share of the CS8 with Jacksonville behind a four-hit shutout from ace RHP David Jacob (8-2). Jacob had nine punch-outs in the game. Jacob drove home the only runs he would need with a single and a triple. Red-Hot Steve Sartore singled and plated a pair of Cyclone runs. Junior C Mitch Trees tripled and walked three times in his four plate appearances.

Jacksonville 5, Springfield 4
Jacksonville (17-8; 12-4) won in walk-off fashion on Wednesday as the Crimson slipped past Springfield (16-13; 10-5) and grabbed a share of the CS8 with SHG. It was the first conference title in baseball for Jacksonville in the 20-year history of the Central State 8 Conference.

Dustin Woodcock sent the Crimson Crowd into orbit when he danced home from third on a wild pitch to score the conference championship clinching run. Woodcock had doubled to lead off the seventh. RHP Tyler Ring (3-1) fired 6 2/3 shutout innings of relief with five strikeouts to pick up the win on the mound for the CS8 co-champs.

Chatham Glenwood 5, Springfield Southeast 2
Chatham Glenwood (16-8; 10-4) kept its hopes of a fourth consecutive CS8 crown alive, defeating Southeast on Wednesday behind junior RHP Brian Hobbie. Hobbie fired a two-hitter with eight strikeouts at SE to pick up the win. Jake Atterberry led the Titan attack with two hits and two RBI. The Titans play Springfield Lanphier today at South Park in Chatham at 4:30 and then meet the Lions in Springfield on Friday at 4:30. A Titan sweep of the Lions will give them a share of the 2013 CS8 championship with SHG and Jacksonville.

Central Suburban South

Evanston 7, No. 7 Glenbrook South 6
Evanston (21-12;8-8) rallied for three runs in the bottom of the sixth to stun CSL-South champ Glenbrook South (22-5; 12-4) on Wednesday in Evanston. The three-run ‘Kit explosion was highlighted by a clutch RBI double from Julian Gonzales that drove home the eventual game-winner.

Southwest Prairie

No. 18 Minooka 10, Plainfield North 3
Minooka (22-7; 17-3) rolled to their 14th consecutive victory and clinched the SWPC title. Tyler Desmarias and Steve Wittkamp led the Indian attack with two hits and two RBI each. LHP Josh Mitchell (5-1) allowed one earned run in five innings to pick up the win and Indian RH closer Trevor Maly nailed down his second save of the season.  

East Suburban Catholic

No. 24 Benet Academy 5, Marian Catholic 3
Benet (20-7; 12-4) spotted Marian Catholic (19-11; 10-6) a 2-0 lead after three innings and then hammered the Spartans with a five-run fourth to win in Chicago Heights on Wednesday. With the win the Redwings will share the 2013 ESCC Championship with Carmel of Mundelein. Redwing No. 9 hitter Jimmy Colletti hammered a huge three-run bomb to highlight the Redwings game-changing fourth inning. University of Illinois-bound Pat McInerney also went deep in the fourth. Junior RHP Chris Whelan slammed the door on the Spartans with his five innings of one-run, one-hit relief to pick up the win.

Carmel 12, St. Patrick 3
Carmel (22-6; 12-4) rolled past the Shamrocks and grabbed a share of the ESCC title with Benet Academy on Wednesday. Ian Kristan and Quentin Sefcik led the Corsair attack, as they both had two hits and plated three Corsair runs. Mike Stahoviak was 2-for-2 with a pair of RBI while Brett Milazzo chipped in with a single and two RBI. RHP Dylan Wright allowed three runs in six innings to pick up the win.  

Upstate 8 River

Batavia 9, Streamwood 5
Batavia (23-6, 18-5) scored seven runs in the bottom of the first and cruised past Streamwood to clinch at least a tie for the U8C River title.

St. Charles East 7, Elgin Larkin 1
St. Charles East (20-9-1; 17-6) kept pace with Batavia behind senior RHP Matt Starai who scattered eight hits and allowed one run in his complete-game for the Fighting Saint. Sean Dunne homered singled and plated five runs to lead the Saint’s attack.

Upstate 8 Valley

Lake Park 3, Waubonsie Valley 2
Lake Park (24-7; 20-4) senior C Tom Spear’s sac-fly plated junior Devin Rybacki with the eventual game-winning run in the top of the eighth as the Lancers edged Waubonsie Valley (15-13; 13-10). With the win, the Lancers win the outright U8C-Valley Division championship. Spear had two hits and drove home all three Lancer runs to lead the Lancers to the U8C Valley crown. Senior RHP Eric Vatch went the distance allowing two runs and six hits to pick up the championship-clinching victory. Vatch improved to 7-0 on the season.  

DuPage

No. 15 Naperville Central 11, West Chicago 1
Naperville Central (23-7; 17-4), after two hard-fought wins over the last-place Wildcats, finally disposed of WEGO in five innings on Wednesday.

N. Illinois Big 12-West

DuQuoin (21-7) rolled past SIRR-Mississippi-rival Pinckneyville on Wednesday behind Indian leadoffman Austin Mansker. Mansker doubled singled and plated four Indian runs while Jonah Spencer added a single double and an RBI to the Indian attack. Indian starting pitcher Camdon Mercier picked up the win and Indian closer AJ Smith fired two shutout innings in relief to nail down the save,   

ROBINSON

No. 9 Teutopolis 4, Robinson 1
Teutopolis (25-3) slipped past regional host Robinson behind a three-hitter from RHP Jared Waldhoff. The Robinson run was unearned and Waldhoff fanned nine in his masterpiece. Wooden Shoes junior Bobby Wenthe hammered a two-run shot in the fifth to put this one in the win column for T-Town.

HARRISBURG

No. 6 Harrisburg 17, Hamilton County 0
Harrisburg (29-4) crushed Hamilton County in five innings on Wednesday behind senior RHP Cody Hall (8-1) who fired a two-hit shutout. Justin Younger was 3-for-3 with two RBI to lead the bulldog attack.

IMMACULATE CONCEPTION
(REDMOND PARK-BENSONVILLE)

Timothy Christian 5, Westmont 1
Westmont (22-7) was stunned by the Trojans on Wednesday night at beautiful Redmond Park in Bensenville.

Lisle 7, Immaculate Conception 4
Lisle (17-10-1) rolled past the regional hosts from I-C on Wednesday behind junior C Kevin Coppin. Coppin drove home three runs to lead the Lion attack. Coppin’s batterymate LHP Austin Ventrella scattered nine hits and gave up three earned runs in his complete-game performance. Senior Ryan Van Volkenburg chipped in with two hits and an RBI. Lisle will take on Timothy Christian at Immaculate Conception at High Noon for the Class 2A Immaculate Conception Regional Championship.

CHICAGO CHRISTIAN

Chicago Christian 23, CICS Longwood 0
Chicago Christian (29-6) won in five-innings on Wednesday in the Knights regional-opening mis-match.

WILLIAMSVILLE

Williamsville 3, Athens 1
Williamsville (23-7) slipped past a feisty Athens squad and advance to the Bullet’s own regional championship game on Saturday.  

PLEASANT PLAINS  

Pleasant Plains 5, Pittsfield 3
Pleasant Plains (23-9) grabbed an early 3-0 lead and held on to defeat the Saukees on Wednesday IN Plains. Senior Taylor Staff (6-2) picked up the win on the mound with relief help from senior LHP Ben Sprague who nailed down his fourth save of 2013. Senior Steve Rush and Anthony Lucchesi each had two hits and drove home a Cardinal run.

WESTMINSTER CHRISTIAN

Aurora Central Catholic 9, North Boone 2
Aurora Central Catholic (26-6) rolled past NB behind a complete-game masterpiece from junior Andrew Bruss (7-3). Red-hot Michael Fiddler hit his third home run in a week for ACC.
