Fall Prospect Program Weekend Review - Sept. 30

By Steve Nielsen

PALATINE, IL - This week the Fall Prospect Program was at Harper College in Palatine, IL. In the final week of games we got to see some players perform at their best. Some of which have come a long way since Week 1. Here’s a review of guys that stood out in the final week of games.

Brian Jestice (Fremd HS, Class of 2013) – This was the best we’ve seen Jestice this fall. He was up to 88 mph out of the windup and was locating well down in the zone. He was throwing his curveball for strikes and struck out 6 batters in 3 innings of work. Jestice has been steadily improving all fall and we hope to see this progression lead right into the spring.

Connor Hogan (Lincoln-Way West, Class of 2013) – Connor Hogan has been quietly impressing all fall and he capped off his fall this week showing some pop that we haven’t seen before, driving a triple off the left field wall. Hogan was again clean in the infield showing good action to both his left and right.

Simeon Lucas (Grant HS, Class of 2014) – Lucas was back at it again this week squaring up baseballs like we’ve seen him do in the past. He showed his pop again this week driving a double and a triple.

Stewart Nelson (Lyons Township, Class of 2013) – Nelson continued to spray line drives all over the field again this week, as well as showing off his speed on the bases. His actions played well this week at three infield positions showing his versatility and arm strength across the diamond.

Joey Morris (Stevenson HS, Class of 2014) – This was the best we’ve seen Joey Morris at the plate, Morris was seeing the ball well yesterday  recording 3 doubles and 3 singles, as well as driving in the game winning run for his team in the first game.

Paul O’Toole (Fenwick HS, Class of 2013) – O’Toole looked good at the plate and in the field this week recording a double and a triple as well as making some key defensive plays in the field for his team. O’Toole was definitely one of the top performers for Team Green this week.

Mitchell Goll (Stevenson HS, Class of 2014) – Goll pitched well again this week pitching two innings locating a 78-80 mph fastball down in the zone that was hard for hitters to pick up. He also showed a good curveball with the ability to throw it for strikes. Mitchell also added two doubles at the plate.

Bobby Pennington (Maine South, Class of 2014) – Pennington pitched an efficient two innings commanding his fastball at 80-83 mph with a good breaking ball to compliment it.

Liam Carter (Highland Park, Class of 2014) – The 6-foot-7 right hander looked good again this week throwing his fastball at 82-84 mph with run. Carter’s upside is huge, with plenty of room to fill out his 6-foot-7 frame there is a lot of intrigue in Carter’s development.

Jeremy Schoessling (Batavia HS, Class of 2014) – Schoessling came up with 2 big RBI singles this week as well as adding another hit. The 6-foot middle infielder played well defensively and showed a balanced clean stroke at the plate.

Glenn Kubek (De La Salle HS, Class of 2014) – Kubek showed some pop again this week using his left handed stroke to drive a double and a triple along with 2 singles.

Samuel Heilenbach (Lyons Township, Class of 2014) – Heilenbach showed his pop again this week driving another triple off the wall to go along with two singles.

Next week the Fall Prospect Program will be holding its showcase on October 7th at The MAX in McCook, IL. The showcase will begin at 9:00 am.
