No. 1 Mount Carmel 8, No. 73 Morgan Park 0

Mount Carmel and senior LHP David Dobrinich made easy work of Morgan Park on Monday at Chicago State. Dobrinich, a Western Illinois commit fired a complete game shutout scattering seven hits and striking out four.

The Caravan got on the board in the third with a little small ball. After junior catcher and Valparaiso commit Scott Kapers led the inning off with a walk, back to back push bunts by juniors Ako Thomas (Michigan) and Josh Stowers (Louisville) pushed a run across. A walk to Dobrinich brought clean up hitter Malik Carpenter with the base loaded who proceeded to lace a double to left center scoring two.

With a 3-0 lead the Caravan’s Ako Thomas put his speed to use again stealing second, then third, forcing a throwing error by the catcher to score another Caravan run.

In the fifth junior Nick Wheeler added and RBI double. Then in the seventh Stowers completed the scoring with an RBI single, later scoring on a passed ball.

Scott Kapers stood out defensively for Mount Carmel. Not only conducting the complete game shutout behind the plate but also throwing out two Morgan Park would be base stealers with near perfect shots down to second.
