CLASS 4A SECTIONAL FINALS

No. 1 Neuqua Valley 5, No. 14 Plainfield North 3
Justin Hicks
pitched five solid innings and James Gargano and Ryan Wheeler hit back-to-back RBI singles in the bottom of the fourth as Neuqua scored three runs to take a 4-1 lead. Hicks allowed two runs on five hits while striking out six and walking one before giving way to Mason LeBreck, who allowed an unearned run in two innings for the save. Tim Schneider had two RBI in the victory.

No. 4 St. Laurence 2, No. 6 Brother Rice 1

No. 8 Edwardsville 7, Normal West 0
Andrew Yancik
pitched a five-hit shutout, striking out six and walking three, to lead Edwardsville to the Class 4A Bloomington Sectional championship. Yancik also doubled, tripled and had two RBI in the victory, and Drake Westcott added a solo home run.

No. 9 Mundelein 8, Warren 1
Steve Sanchez
struck out 12 and did not allow a hit in 5 ⅓ innings as Mundelein cruised to the Class 4A Glenbrook South Sectional title. Nick Stricker went 2-for-3 with four RBI in the victory. Sanchez, Brendan Murphy and Mason Schaller added two hits apiece for the Mustangs.

No. 10 New Trier 8, Fenwick 2
Nate Shapiro
drove in a pair of runs and Kevin Donahue had two hits, scored two runs and drove in another as the Trevians cruised to the Class 4A Lane Sectional title. Sean Douaire pitched 3 ⅔ innings of scoreless relief as New Trier pulled away.

No. 13 Crystal Lake South 6, No. 12 Huntley 2
Kyle Lang
needed just 99 pitches to go the distance despite allowing 11 hits as South captured the Class 4A McHenry Sectional title. Lang struck out two and did not issue any walks. Brian Fuentes had two hits and two RBI and Michael Swiatly doubled twice and drove in a run for the Gators. Griffin Bright added two hits in the victory.

No. 17 Sandburg 7, No. 16 Lincoln-Way Central 3
Evan Tenuta
went 4-for-4 and Kevin Lane pitched a complete game to lead Sandburg to the Class 4A Homewood-Flossmoor Sectional championship. Lane allowed two earned runs on five hits while striking out seven and walking one. Andrew Tenison homered and Brian Hughes drove home three runs in the victory.

South Elgin 4, Willowbrook 1
Jack Stancl
pitched six innings of three-hit ball and Dylan Wells struck out two in a perfect seventh to lead the Storm to the Class 4A Schaumburg Sectional title. Nate Gomez and Kevin Barry hit consecutive singles to lead off the top of the fourth, and both came around to score on errors as South Elgin took a 3-1 lead. Adam Walker doubled and scored in the victory as South Elgin made the most of its five hits.

CLASS 3A SECTIONAL FINALS

Champaign Central 9, No. 20 Glenwood 7
Central forced Glenwood ace Reid Detmers out of the game with 105 pitches through five-plus innings then rallied for six runs in the sixth to claim the Class 3A Glenwood Sectional title. Jake Beesley went 3-for-4 with three RBI, including a run-scoring double in the sixth. Jake Cochrane, Marshall Thompson and Cade Sestak added clutch hits in the rally.  

Morton 7, Geneseo 5
Trevor Davis
singled home the go-ahead run in the top of the eighth, and the Potters added another on a wild pitch to claim the Class 3A Metamora Sectional. Pat King went 3-for-4 with a homer, a double and three RBI in the victory. Adam Christianson allowed a run on three hits while striking out five in three innings to pick up the win in relief.

Mascoutah 5, Civic Memorial 4
Jacob Davis
picked a good time to take one for the team, getting hit by a pitch with the bases loaded and two outs in the bottom of the seventh to give Mascoutah the Class 3A THIS Sectional title. Jayden Stewart had three RBI in the victory, including a two-run homer as Mascoutah took a 4-0 lead. Civic Memorial tied it with three runs in the sixth and another in the top of the seventh. ases loaded and two out in the bottom of the seventh to give Mascoutah the Class 3A Salem Sectional title. St. Viator 8, Grayslake Central 2
Bryce Hellgeth pitched 6 ⅔ innings of three-hit ball and drove in two runs to lead St. Viator to the Class 3A Lake View Sectional title. Jack Mahoney had two hits and two RBI and Casey Kmet added two hits, scored two runs and drove in another for St. Viator.

Benet 11, Nazareth 1
Marty Dosen homered, tripled and had three RBI as Benet captured the Class 3A Benet Sectional title. Mike Dunn and two relievers limited Nazareth to four hits in the six-inning victory. C.J. Birck and Tyler Bautista had two hits apiece for the Redwings.

Marmion 13, Burlington Central 0
Brandon McPherson pitched a one-hitter with eight strikeouts and Bobby Pierce hit a home run as Marmion needed just five innings to win the Class 3A Sycamore Sectional. Bryce Burton went 3-for-3 and Jack Molenhouse added two hits and two RBI for the Cadets.

Marian Catholic 4, Oak Forest 1
Mark DiLuia pitched a complete game, allowing six hits while striking out seven and walking one as the Spartans captured the Class 3A Ottawa Sectional. Daniel Gutierrez and Wyell Woods had two hits apiece and Nick Bledsoe drove in two runs for Marian.
