CRESTWOOD, IL – In the 3A Super-Sectional at Standard Bank Stadium, No. 22 Lemont matched up with De La Salle, with the winner advancing to state in Joliet. Lemont came ready to play, taking a 9-0 lead into the top of the sixth, eventually winning 10-4.

Lemont, who won the 3A state title in 2014, put the game out of reach scoring four runs in the bottom of the fifth inning, extending their lead to 9-0. Casey O’Brien, Nick Wisz and Ryan Sublette all doubled in the frame. Austin Tittle and Angel Salinas chipped in with RBI singles as well.

De La Salle tried to make it interesting in the top half of the sixth, scoring four runs of their own. The Meteors of De La Salle racked up four singles and two walks in the frame, highlighted by a two out, two-run single by Teo Marquez, cutting the lead to 9-4. Lemont was able to avoid any further damage, inducing the next batter to fly out to right, ending the threat and taking a five run lead into the final inning.

After tacking on an RBI single in the top half of the seventh, junior right-handed pitcher Ryan Sublette, came in to close out the game in the bottom half of the frame for Lemont. Sublette made quick work of the De La Salle offense, retiring them in order, advancing Lemont to Joliet and the Class 3A State Semifinal game.

Lemont (28-9) scored two runs in the second and two in the third to jump out to an early 4-0 lead on De La Salle. Lemont scored two in the first thanks to a two out throwing error that short hopped and got away from the first baseman. In the second inning Wisz drove a run-scoring triple to the center-field fence and Garrett Acton, a St. Louis recruit, followed with a sacrifice fly to center field.

Junior, left-handed pitcher, Nate Madej got the start and win for Lemont on the mound. He went five innings, scattered three hits, one run and struck out six.

Lemont plays St. Viator in the opening game on Friday at Silver Cross Field in Joliet at 10:00 am.
