LOCKPORT, IL – Lockport showed its resiliency and in the process took control of the Southwest Suburban Blue Conference race with a 5-4 victory over No. 16 Homewood-Flossmoor on Tuesday.

The Porters (14-6, 7-1), who were throttled by Homewood-Flossmoor (15-5, 6-2), 12-1, in their last meeting, scored three runs in the sixth inning to pull out the victory. With both teams entering the game tied for first in conference, the game’s deciding run came rather anticlimactically when Stephen Hill walked with the bases loaded to break a 4-4 tie in the sixth.

In fact, none of Lockport’s three runs in the decisive sixth inning were earned. Two errors, including one to lead off the inning, and four walks accounted for all the runs in the inning. Nevertheless, it was enough to clip one of the state’s hotter teams with its ace, hard-throwing RHP Malcolm Grady, on the mound.

Senior SS Tyler Hair paced the Porters by going 2-for-2 with a walk and hit by pitch. Hair’s RBI double to left field in the fifth tied the game at 2-2. RF Tyler Nassar added a pair of singles and a run for the Porters. Senior LHP Austin Moralis pitched 5.1 innings with six strikeouts, four hits, seven walks and three runs before turning it over to junior LHP Joe Riordan, who pitched out of jams in the sixth and seventh to earn the victory.

Meanwhile, Grady started shakily, allowing three hits and walked in a run on a 90-mph just off the plate in the first inning. However, the 6-foot-4, 195-pound Wabash Valley recruit bounced back to turn in a solid effort. In 5.2 innings, Grady struck out seven, walked four, hit one batter, and yielded six hits and one earned run. Grady, who pitched in the 87-88 range for most of the game, was still touching 90 in the sixth (actually, more 90s in the sixth than the first).

Parker Coleman went 1-for-2 with two walks and a RBI, and Jordan Fox delivered a run-scoring double in the second inning and walked twice for Homewood-Flossmoor.
