No. 3 St. Laurence 5, No. 2 St. Rita 4
St. Laurence (18-5; 11-1) swept away second-ranked St. Rita (22-4; 9-2) in eight thrilling innings at Viking Field in Burbank. Junior 2B Nate Tholl’s sac-fly won it for the Vikings in the bottom of the eighth. Purdue-recruit junior RHP Mike Kornacker (5-1) went all eight innings allowing 11 hits and four unearned runs against the Vikings.

Austin-Peay-recruit TJ Marik struck for the second straight game against the Mustangs. With the Mustangs up 2-0 in the top of the fifth, Marik hammered a game-tying two-run bomb and the Vikings would go on to scorer four in the fifth. The Mustangs would answer with two in their half of the fifth to tie the game at 4-4.

For St. Laurence, Purdue-recruit junior Brad Wood added two hits and an RBI while fellow junior Kevin White had two singles and drove home a Viking run. Junior Mike Miller chipped in with two hits.

For St. Rita, St. Joseph’s College-bound Marty Napleton led the Mustang attack with three hits and a pair of RBI. Mustang senior 3B Andy Massey added two singles and two RBI.

Loyola 7, No. 4 Mount Carmel 2
Loyola (9-16; 5-7) stunned fourth-ranked Mount Carmel (21-5; 10-2) at Haggerty Field in Chicago on Wednesday. Rambler senior Matt Fallon did most of the damage for the Ramblers, with two singles and four big RBI. Junior Tommy Bordignon added a single, double, scored three runs and drove home two for Loyola. Senior RHP John Torrason went the distance against the Caravan allowing two runs and six hits to pick up the win.

Brother Rice 8, Providence 7
Brother Rice (13-7; 7-4) spotted Providence a 6-0 lead after two innings and roared back for a thrilling one-run victory at Tom Dedin Field in New Lenox. Luke Leibforth had an RBI single in the seventh to give the Crusaders an 8-6 lead. Leibforth finished with three hits and two RBI. Juniors Brian Musielak and Kevin Biondic each had three hits as Musielak plated three Crusader runs and Biondic two.

Nonconference

No. 1 Lincoln-Way North 12, Lincoln-Way Central 0
Lincoln-Way North (22-0) routed their rivals from Lincoln-Way Central (12-7) in five innings on Wednesday. SIU-Edwardsville-bound RHP Mike Miller fired a one-hitter at the Knights with seven strikeouts, extending his scoreless streak to 38 innings this season. Red-hot St. Joseph College-bound SS Josh Handzik was 3-for-3 with two runs scored and a RBI. Josh Reid and Tyler Gaynor each had a pair of Ribbies for the Phoenix.

Central State 8

Chatham Glenwood 9, Taylorville 1
Chatham Glenwood (15-4; 9-2) won for the seventh straight time, crushing the Tornadoes on Wednesday. Junior RHP Konnor Aherin (6-0) fired a six-hitter with eight strikeouts at Taylorville. Junior Brian Hobbie led the Titan attack with three hits and three RBI. The three-time defending CS8 champion Titans recent surge has vaulted them into familiar territory atop the CS8 standings.

No.13 Springfield Sacred Heart-Griffin 4, Springfield S.E. 1
SHG (16-4; 9-3) swept away Southeast behind Cyclone ace RHP David Jacob (7-1). Jacob fired a four-hitter at Southeast with seven strikeouts. The run Jacob allowed was unearned. Jacob helped himself at the plate with a solo-shot and a single. Jacob’s batterymate junior C Mitch Trees also hammered a solo shot for the Cyclones. Junior Steve Sartore chipped in with a single and an RBI.

Springfield 20, Springfield Lanphier 1
Springfield (12-11; 8-3) routed Lanphier (0-16; 0-10) in five innings on Wednesday at Robin Roberts Stadium in Springfield. With the win the Senators will meet SHG (16-4; 9-3) in the Springfield City Series Finale two-game set at Robin Roberts at 4:15 today and 6:30 on Friday night.

In this game the Senators received a two-hitter from senior RHP Luke Lavin (2-0). Junior Kovin Pritchard homered doubled scored four runs and drove home five to lead the Senator attack. Senior Connor Jacobs added three hits and three RBI while senior Drake - fine name - Martin doubled home three for the Senators.

Central Suburban South

No. 15 Glenbrook South 9, Waukegan 1
Glenbrook South (16-2; 8-1) stayed atop the CSL-South with a win over the Bulldogs,

Maine South 6, Evanston 3
Maine South (12-5; 7-2) scored four times in the second inning and cruised past Evanston (15-8; 5-3) to stay within a game of CSL-South leader Glenbrook South. Senior Eric Sons had two hits and two RBI to lead the Hawk attack. Senior C Brian Jones added three hits and an RBI while EIU-bound Frank Perrone had two hits including a double and an RBI.

DuPage Valley

Wheaton Warrenville South 4, No. 9 Naperville Central 3
Wheaton Warrenville South (14-7; 8-3) won a thriller in eight innings in Naperville on Wednesday. Tiger Ben Bach’s only hit of the game was a big one, driving home the eventual game-winner in the top of the eighth. Rich O’Neil hammered a solo-shot and RHP Rich Amen fired two scoreless innings in relief to pick up the win.

Naperville Central (14-5; 9-3) will open up a crucial three-game DVC series at Wheaton North on Thursday. The two clubs will hook-up in Naperville on Friday and then return to Wheaton on Saturday morning. The PBR’s Drake Skleba will be in Wheaton today at 4:30 with all of the action.

Glenbard North 10, West Aurora 7
Glenbard North (12-7; 9-3) exploded for eight runs in the top of the sixth to wipe-out a 7-1 West Aurora lead and end its three-game DVC losing streak on Wednesday. Panther C Jeff LaPage highlighted the eight-run Panther explosion with a grand slam. Ryan Storto was 4-for-4 for the Panthers with a triple and two RBI. Vinny Slobodecki chipped in with two hits including a double and two RBI. Brett Consitt allowed three hits and one earned run in his solid five innings of relief to pick up the win.

Naperville North 14, West Chicago 5
Naperville North (11-7; 6-5) was led by Alex Garon and Pat Mollo, who both homered to lead the Huskies to the DVC win. Garon was a triple shy of hitting for the cycle with three runs scored and two RBI. Mollo also was a triple shy of hitting for the cycle with three RBI.

Nonconference

No. 12 Downers Grove South 5, Hinsdale Central 2
Downers Grove South (20-3) hit the 20-victory plateau behind University of Iowa-bound RHP Zack Burdi. Burdi allowed one earned run and three hits with 10 strikeouts, in his six stellar innings of work to pick up the win. Mustang senior 3B Kevin Raher had two doubles and two RBI to lead the Mustang attack. Mike Zinneker chipped in with a double and a pair of RBI.

No. 15 Wheaton North 14, Addison Trail 4
Wheaton North (17-3; 9-2 DVC) hit four homers and went on to Addison Trail in six innings on Wednesday. The Falcons were led by C Tom Cassier who homered singled and plated four Falcon runs. Tom Colletti continued his torrid hitting with three more hits and an RBI. Greg Scandora went deep as did Zach Leander and Jim Pullia. All three long-ball participants drove in two Falcon runs.

East Suburban Catholic

Carmel 4, Notre Dame 3
Carmel (15-3; 7-1) scored the game-winner on a Don miscue in the bottom of the sixth to remain atop the ESCC standings. Corsair junior C Ian Kristan singled and drove in two while senior Tyler Murphy launched a solo-shot and doubled. University of Illinois-recruit junior RHP Quentin Sefcik fired two scoreless innings in relief to pick up the win.

Benet Academy 8, Joliet Catholic Academy 7
Benet Academy (13-6; 5-3) won in dramatic fashion in Lisle to defeat Joliet Catholic (12-8; 5-4) in eight thrilling innings. JCA rallied for two runs in the top of the seventh to tie the game at 7-7. With one out in the bottom of the eighth, Redwing senior Joe Giuffre doubled. Giuffre moved to third on a ground out and scored the game-winner on a passed ball to send the Redwing fans dancing onto Maple Avenue.

Giuffre finished with three hits while Redwing sophomore leadoffman Connor Hickey had four hits, including a double and an RBI. Junior Chris Whelan chipped in with a double and an RBI.

Marian Catholic 6, Nazareth 5
Marian Catholic (12-7; 7-3) won a thriller in eight innings over Nazareth (16-7-1; 2-6) in La Grange Park on Wednesday. Brad Bohlen singled home Luis Carlo Avila with the eventual game-winner in the top of the eighth.

Bohlen finished with three hits, including a double with two RBI. David Calderone singled and drove home two Spartan runs while Mike Bainbridge, Eric Hurley and Luis Carlo Avila all had two hits. Bainbridge drove home a Spartan run. RHP Erik Callaghan allowed an unearned run and two hits in his two innings of relief to pick up the win.

Fox Valley Crossovers

Cary Grove 3, Hampshire 0
Cary Grove (15-5; 12-3) blanked the Whip-Purrs, behind a two-hit shutout from senior RHP Dean Lee. Brandon McCumber had two singles and plated a pair to lead the Trojan attack.

Fox Valley Valley

Jacobs 3, McHenry 2
Jacobs (16-6; 8-4) rallied past FVC-Valley co-leader McHenry (15-9; 9-4) on Wednesday. McHenry grabbed the lead 2-1 scoring a run in the top of the seventh. Jacobs rallied past the Warriors scoring twice in the bottom of the seventh, both on Warrior miscues. Golden Eagles Connor Conzelman and Aaron Meciej each had two hits. RHP Ryan Sargent (4-1) retired all three Warrior hitters he faced in the seventh to pick up the win. Connor Conzelman has seven round-trippers this spring for Jacobs.

Jackie Robinson North

Lane Tech 13, Schurz 1
Lane Tech (16-8; 10-0) crushed Schurz in five innings on Wednesday. The Indians scored seven times in the bottom of the fifth to end this one. Jeremy Dixon homered singled and had three RBI to lead the lane attack. Mike Henry also homered doubled and plated a pair for the Indians. LHP Adrian Gracia (2-1) picked up the win on the mound.

Interstate 8 Crossovers

Westmont 14, Peotone 0
Westmont (18-4; 9-2 North) kept pace with Lisle in the I-8 North, with a five-inning two-hit shutout from junior RHP Zach Moran. Juniors Greg Pietrzak and Tommy Franczak each plated three runs for the Sentinels. Super-soph Charlie Donovan singled, doubled and plated two while junior John Kelly had a perfect 3-for-3 day at the plate with two RBI.

Manteno 11, Dwight 1
Manteno (17-3; 8-3 South) crushed Dwight behind the booming bat of junior Drew Nichols. Nichols hammered his third round-tripper of 2013 singled and drove home five Panther runs. Panther RHP James Weltmeyer (3-0) allowed one run in his solid four innings of work on the mound to pick up the win.

Metro Suburban

Glenbard South12, Riverside-Brookfield 6
Defending Metro Suburban Conference champion Glenbard South (14-3; 10-1) crushed Riverside-Brookfield (20-4-1; 9-2) to vault into first-place in the MSC. Raiders exploded for six runs in the top of the sixth to put this one away. Justin Joseph had a pair of singles and three RBI while red-hot Tony Tenuta singled twice scored three runs and drove home a pair of raider runs. Ethan Gasbarro chipped in with a double and two RBI. RHP Mike Atkinson went the distance for the Raiders to pick up the win

The huge three-game series will close in Glen Ellyn at 4:30 today. R-B will be trying to salvage a game and first-place, behind Bulldog ace junior RHP Will Kincanon (6-0). PBR Executive Director Sean Duncan there for all of the action.

Mid-Illini

No. 21 Metamora 6, Morton 0
Metamora (20-4; 10-0) blanked the Potters behind a three-hit shutout from LHP Jeremy Guerrero. Guerrero fanned seven in his masterpiece. Super-Soph Trent Johnson (Arizona) hammered his eighth round-tripper doubled and plated three more Redbird runs. Alec Skender continued his torrid hitting with a double and two RBI. Johnson is hitting .527 with eight dingers and 31 RBI. Skender is hitting .462 with six dingers and a team-leading 42 RBI.

Bartonville Limestone 6, Washington 3
Limestone (18-4; 10-0) swept away Washington in Bartonville on Wednesday to keep pace with Metamora. The Rockets hit the Panthers with a four-spot in the bottom of the first to put this one away early. Rocket ace LHP Dylan Weaver (6-1) went the distance, allowing two earned runs and four hits with 10 punch-outs. Chase Schooley had a single and drove home three Rocket runs.

Circle May 13 and May 15 on your calendar. On the 13th the Rockets will invade Metamora at 4:15 and the two M-IC co-leaders will hook up in Bartonville at 7 on the 15th.

Mid-Suburban East

Rolling Meadows 6, Elk Grove 2
Rolling Meadows (9-8-1; 7-1) reclaimed first-place from Elk Grove (15-6; 6-2). Meadows’ senior RHP Matt Dennis fired a four-hitter at the Grenadiers. Both Elk Grove runs were unearned. Dennis fanned nine. Mustang senior Mike Dolan doubled and had two RBI. Seniors Mickey Wazorick and Dan Hendrickson each singled and drove home a Mustang run. Dennis helped himself with an RBI single

Mid-Suburban West

Schaumburg 6, Barrington 2
Schaumburg scored three times in the top of the first and went on to put an end to Barrington’s (14-8; 8-2) eleven-game winning streak on Wednesday. Schaumburg’s junior 1B Mike Fan hammered two bombs singled and plated four Saxon runs. Junior Brad Schwind fired five shutout innings of five hit-ball to pick up the win. Saxon closer Josh Rahn put out a Bronco rally in the bottom of the seventh by retiring the only hitter he faced to nail down the save.

Palatine 11, Conant 2
Palatine (11-8-1; 6-2) rolled past Conant behind Zach Serna who singled doubled tripled and drove home four runs. Pirate C Greg Grana added two hits and two RBI while RHP Alec Piszczek allowed two runs and four hits with seven strikeouts in six innings to pick up the win.

Fremd 7, Hoffman Estates 3
Fremd (11-7; 4-3) scored five times in the bottom of the fifth to bust-up a 2-2 tie and went on to defeat the Hawks on Wednesday. Viking Randy Wilt homered singled and had three RBI to lead the Fremd attack.

North Suburban Lake

Stevenson 5, Lake Forest 4
Stevenson (12-6; 6-1) won in dramatic fashion in Lincolnshire on Wednesday. Trialing the Scouts 4-2 in the bottom of the seventh, the Patriots rallied for three runs to stay atop the NSC-Lake standings. Zach Novoselski, who was 3-for-3, walk-off single sent the large Patriot contingent home very happy.

No. 7 Mundelein 7, Libertyville 5
Mundelein (20-1; 5-1) rallied past Libertyville (14-6-1; 3-3), scoring single runs in the sixth and seventh to seep past the Wildcats on Wednesday. Luke Adams homered singled scored two runs and drove home two to lead the Mundelein attack.

No. 19 Plainfield South 13, Romeoville1
Plainfield South (16-3; 11-1) was led by Tyler Butler who had two singles and plated three Cougar runs. Victor Garcia had a perfect 3-for-3 day with a ribbie for the SWSC-leaders.

Minooka 5, Oswego 1
Minooka (14-7; 10-3) kept pace with Plainfield South behind Indian LHP Josh Mitchell. Mitchell fired a three-hitter at the Panthers with 12 punch-outs. Senior 1B Max Brozovich had three hits and drove home an Indian run.

Southwest Suburban Blue

Bolingbrook 10, No. 6 Lincoln-Way East 7
Lincoln-Way East (15-5; 5-3) lost its third straight to Bolingbrook on Wednesday. Bolingbrook’s Mario Samuel did most of the damage with a homer two singles three runs scored and three RBI.

Suburban Christian Crossovers

Aurora Central Catholic 8, St. Francis 4
Aurora Central Catholic (22-3; 10-2 Gold) won behind Heartland Community College-bound Matt Miller (5-0). Miller struck out a dozen in his six quality innings on the mound.
