The Metro East Showcase on Wednesday, July 9th at O’Fallon’s Blazier Field brought out many prospects in the southern Illinois/suburban St. Louis area.

Several pitcher’s impressed, none more than left-handed pitcher Bryan Hudson (Alton, IL), who topped out at 89 mph from a lanky and projectable 6-foot-7 frame.  Hudson’s slider was also the event’s best breaking pitch.

Several position players ran sub 60-yard dash times, led by Josh Haberer (Breese Mater Dei, IL), who ran off 6.76.  Edwardsville’s Cole Cimarolli finished slightly behind Haberer with a 6.79.

Top Pop Times

Jeff Hightower (Mascoutah, IL) reeled off the event’s top pop times at 1.95 and 1.97.  Several other catching prospects threw in the low 2.0’s.

Four catcher’s threw over 70 mph from the crouch, led by Hightower who threw 79 mph.  Merrik Eddington (Mount Zion, IL) was the top 2017 catcher in attendance and threw 78 mph from the crouch.

Jackson Penrod (O’Fallon, IL) impressed with the top outfield velocity of the event.  Fahd Shakeel (Edwardsville, IL) and Bradley Harrison (O’Fallon, IL), who is committed to SIU-Carbondale, both threw 83 mph with carry as well.

Edwardsville’s Aaron Jackson was one of the top corner infielders in attendance, and impressed throwing 81 mph across the diamond from third base with accuracy.  Ty Buckner (Ladue, MO) was a 2017 shortstop who impressed with is fluid actions and above average arm strength at 79 mph.

South Central’s Dylan Smith, who also impressed throwing 81 mph across the infield, had the top exit velocity at the Metro East Showcase at 90 mph.  Bradley Harrison followed close behind at 88 mph, and several others produced exit velocities above 85 mph.
