No. 5 Normal West 3, Troy-Triad 2
No. 5 Normal West (21-3; 7-0) won for the 15th and 16th consecutive times, winning a pair of games in the O’Fallon Classic Tournament at O’ Fallon on Saturday. In a Big-12 conference match-up against
Urbana, Wildcat senior RHP Nick Hieb improved to 8-0 with a four-hit shutout with seven strikeouts.Senior Josh Appel went deep for the sixth time for the ‘Cats and Western Illinois University-bound C Adam McGinnis singled doubled and drove home three runs.
In game two of the day, University of Illinois-bound Matthew James improved to 8-0 allowing one run with nine strikeouts in his outstanding six innings of work. Junior Reed Rodgers made things interesting in the seventh, allowing a run and loading the bases full of Knights before coaxing a fly-out for the final out of this thriller.
Junior Ryan Frye had two hits and plated two runs for West and Missouri State-bound Alex Jefferson chipped in with two hits. On Tuesday on the West Side of Normal, the Wildcats and Bloomington (19-7; 7-0), will meet in the Game of the Year in the Big 12 at 4:30. The PBR’s Drake Skleba will be in Normal for all of the action.

O’ Fallon 12, Urbana 0
Red-hot O’Fallon won a pair in its O’Fallon Classic at beautiful Blazier Field in O’Fallon on Saturday. In the opener Panther LHP Robert Guithues fired a two-hit shutout at the Knights with six strikeouts.
Junior Bob Deatheridge led the Panther attack with two hits and two RBI. In the night-cap Panther junior RHP Jeff Hahs and senior RHP Ethan Wild combined for a three-hitter at the Tigers. Hahs went the first four innings, allowing three hits and Wild finished up the game with a scoreless fifth. Hahs helped himself at the plate with a single and three RBI. Junior Blake Deatheridge tripled with the bases loaded and Collin Holton and Tanner Hudson continued their hot-hitting with a single and two RBI each.
Catholic Blue
Loyola 3, No. 3 St. Laurence 1
For Loyola (10-16; 6-7), it was Christmas in May for the Ramblers and Bucknell-bound ace Danny Rafferty. Trailing and being no-hit 1-0 by third-ranked St. Laurence and senior RHP Zach Lewis (3-4), the Ramblers picked up their only hit of the game and two unearned runs in the top of the sixth. Loyola would pick up another run in the seventh and Rafferty would do the rest. The future-Mountain Hawk went the distance scattering six hits to pick up the win.
After sweeping No. 2 St. Rita 7-0 and 5-4 this week St. Laurence (18-6; 11-2) falls back into a tie with St. Rita and Mount Carmel atop the mighty CCL-Blue standings.
No. 2 St. Rita 11, Brother Rice 0
St. Rita (24-4; 11-2) blasted Brother Rice (14-8; 7-5) behind a one-hit shutout from Austin Peay-bound LHP Mike Costanzo (8-1). Mustang senior LF Connor McClain went deep with two Mustangs on base.
No. 4 Mount Carmel 3, Providence 0
Mount Carmel (22-5; 11-2) defeated Providence behind a six-hit shutout from University of Kansas-bound LHP Jeremy Kravetz (4-3). Caravan senior 3B Beau Filkins was 2-for-2 with a pair of runs scored for MC. Providence falls to 9-14 and 3-10 in CCL-Blue play.
DuPage Valley
No. 9 Naperville Central 4-5, No. 15 Wheaton North-2-3
Naperville Central (16-5; 10-3) scored twice in the top of the seventh to prevail over Wheaton North (17-5; 9-5) in the conclusion of Thursday’s suspended game. Naperville Central junior Jason Wegner singled home the eventual game winner in the top of the seventh. The Redhawks would add an insurance run for Wegner who fired 2 2/3 scoreless innings in relief to pick up the win on the mound. Wegner needed relief help in the bottom of the seventh from Redhawk senior RHP closer Zach Aranoff who retired the final Falcon hitter to nail down the save.
In the regularly scheduled game, University of Minnesota-bound RHP Cody Campbell (3-0) allowed one run and three hits in his stellar six-inning performance to lead the Redwings to the sweep. Redhawk sophomore Bobby McMillan singled and had two RBI while Creighton-bound SS Nick Lopez and senior C Brian Schiemann, each had two hits and an RBI.

Maine South (14-6; 9-3 South) scored four runs in the fourth inning and edged Deerfield (14-7; 7-4 North) behind senior RHP Jack Touhy (5-0) and junior RHP Bobby Pennington. Touhy allowed one earned run and four hits in his fine five-inning outing. Pennington slammed the door on the Warriors in the sixth and seventh to nail down the save. Eric Sons singled home a pair of Hawk runs while EIU-bound Frank Perrone and Touhy singled and plated a Hawk run.
Niles West 1, Highland Park 0
Niles West (12-5-1; 7-4 South) defeated the Giants on a clutch RBI single from Kyle Colletta in the bottom of the sixth. Wolves starting and winning pitcher Matt Delavega fired six innings of three-hit shutout baseball for the Wolves.
New Trier 11, Maine East 1
New Trier (11-10-1; 6-5 South) smashed the Blue Demons in five-innings behind a four-RBI day from Grant Klenovich. Klenovich tripled and singled and also scored twice for the Trevians. Matt Blanchard, Nolan Stojentin and Ernie Roth al had two hits with an RBI. Roth had a double. Trevian RHP Andrew Kirby fired a one hitter with 10 strikeouts at East. The Maine East run was unearned.

Maine West (7-14; 2-9 North) hammered Evanston (16-9; 6-5 South)

No. 14 Carmel 0-5, Marist 4-3
Marist blanked Carmel (15-4; 7-2) in the opener behind a combined two-hit shutout from Redhawk junior Ian Woodworth and sophomore Ryan Kairis. Woodworth allowed the two hits in his 5 1/3 shutout innings of work. Kairis had the only two hits the Redhawks could get against Carmel ace RHP Matt Ryan (4-1). Carmel (16-4; 8-2) gained a split with a 5-3 victory in the second game.
Joliet Catholic Academy 12-5, St. Viator 2-7
Joliet Catholic Academy (13-9; 6-5) split a pair with St. Viator on Saturday in Arlington Heights. In game one, Hilltopper sophomore Nick Dalesandro (4-2) allowed two runs and six hits in six innings to pick up the win. Dalesandro helped himself at the plate with two singles, a double and plated two Hilltopper runs. Western Illinois University-bound SS Chris Tschida also doubled, had two singles and drove home three for JCA. Senior 1B Ryan Peter and junior Jon Trotto both had two hits and an RBI for the Hilltoppers.

No. 10 Downers Grove South 6-11, Willowbrook 11-3
Willowbrook scored seven times in the top of the sixth to stun Downers Grove South (22-4; 14-2) in the opener. Warrior junior Brian Johnson doubled home a pair of runs while Dom Battaglia, Mike Rothmund, Kevin Johnson and Dom McDonnell all had two hits and an RBI for the Warriors. Downers Grove South (23-4; 15-2) trounced Willowbrook in the nightcap.
West Suburban Silver
Oak Park 10-8, No. 17 Downers Grove North 1-2
The defending Class 4A champions from Oak Park (14-7; 10-4) crushed WSC-Silver leader Downers Grove North (16-6; 11-3) in the opener at Oak Park. Junior Alex Rice singled, doubled and drove home four runs for the Huskies. University of Michigan-bound 1B Nick Kowalczuk singled, doubled, scored three runs and drove home two while Huskie No. 9 hitter Dane Mrozek singled home a pair as well. Senior RHP Henry Cappell fired a four-hitter at the Trojans with seven strikeouts.
In the nightcap the Huskies were led by Patrick Rumoro and Charlie Fencik. Rumero had a pair of singles and plated four Huskie runs while Fencik singled in his only time at bat and drove home two OPRF runs.

No. 22 Lockport 4, Lincoln-Way West 0
Lockport (16-6) blanked Lincoln-Way West behind a combined five-hitter from RHP Nick Lindeman and
RHP Porter closer Colt Ryan. Lindeman went the first five innings allowing four hits and Ryan nailed down his fourth save of the year allowing one hit in his two scoreless innings of relief. Porter senior 3B Doug Matthews had three hits and Purdue-bound Ted Snidanko chipped in with a double and an RBI.
Lockport 6, Bremen 1
Lockport (17-6) rolled past Bremen behind senior Ron Sessler who homered and drove in two Porter runs. Porter seniors, Ted Snidanko and Doug Matthews each had three hits. Matthews picked up an RBI. Derek Bangert and Jake Stanton chipped in with a double and an RBI each. Mike Formella fired five stellar innings on the mound to pick up the win for the Porters. Porter closer Noah Maza pitched a scoreless sixth and seventh inning to finish up another Porter win.
No. 6 Lincoln-Way East 7, Stagg 6
Lincoln-Way East (16-6) held on to beat the Chargers and end the Griffins four-game slide. The Griffins were once again led by Tommy Fuessel, who had two singles a double and drove in two Griffin runs. Brandon Witt added a single and two RBI and Evan Sandman chipped in with two hits.
No. 25 Sandburg 7, Glenbard South 2
Sandburg (16-5) rolled past Glenbard South behind University of Indiana-Bound Austin Cangelosi. Cangelosi had three singles and plated a pair of Eagle runs.
Catholic White
De La Salle 2, Fenwick 1
De La Salle (15-10; 10-6) won in walk-off fashion on Saturday to stay atop the CCL-White. In the bottom of the seventh, Alex Padilla crushed an RBI double to tie the game at 1-1 and moments later scored the game-winner on an RBI single from Meteor freshman 2B Tom Duddleston. UIC-bound RHP Ricardo Ramirez (4-4) fired a four-hitter at the Friars with six strikeouts.
St. Joseph 7, Gordon Tech 4
St. Joseph (11-8; 9-6) spotted Gordon Tech a 4-0 lead after 3 ½ innings and then roared past the Rams on Saturday. Senior Ryan Moritz and Luke Daughenbaugh each plated a pair of Charger runs while Joe DeLuna singled and added an RBI. RHP Pat Brown picked up the win with relief help from Moritz.

Simeon 15, Harlan 1
Simeon (15-4; 7-1) was once again led by sophomore Jamari McKinney, who plated for Wolverine runs while EIU-bound SS Marshawn Taylor chipped in with a pair of RBI.

Barrington 5, Prospect 0
Barrington (15-8; 9-1 West) blanked Prospect behind a six-hit shutout from RHP Scott Nelson. Notre dame-bound C Ryan Lidge homered, singled and drove home a pair for the MSL-West leaders. Bronco 1B Jake Coon was 3-for-3 with an RBI.
Fremd 4, Buffalo Grove 2
Fremd (13-6; 6-2 West) scored three times in the top of the fifth and cruised past the Bison to stay in the MSL-West race. Austin Jetel led the Viking attack with a single double triple a run scored and a Viking RBI. Jetel was a bomb short of hitting for the cycle. Jon Escobar added a double and two RBI for Fremd. Viking RHP Mack Rosman fired a seven-hitter with 13 punch-outs at the Bison.
N. Illinois Big 12 East
Kaneland 4, Rochelle 2
Kaneland (10-11; 8-5) rolled past Rochelle behind Matt Limbrunner and Tyler Carlson, who each doubled and drove home a run for the Knights. RHP Blake Sowell allowed two runs and eight hits with six K’s in his six innings of work to get the win. Knight closer John Hopkins pitched a scoreless seventh to nail down the save.

Lake Park (19-5; 15-3) swept away East Aurora behind a 15-strikeout performance from Charlie Taugner (6-1) and another five-inning shutout performance from Eric Vatch (5-0) for the U8C-Valley leaders
Neuqua Valley 7-8, Waubonsie Valley 3-2
Neuqua Valley (17-8; 14-5) swept away its archrivals from Waubonsie Valley (12-9; 10-6) in a crucial U8C-Valley twin-bill on Saturday. In game one, Creighton-bound RHP David Gerber fired a seven-hitter at the Warriors with nine strikeouts. Bradley-recruit junior Mike Riesner homered singled and drove home a pair of Wildcat runs. Tyler Tesmond had two hits including a triple and had an RBI.
In game two, Riesner singled, doubled and drove home two more runs for the Wildcats. Alex Wolanski had two hits including a double and plated a pair for NV. Matt Butler chipped in with two hits and an RBI. St. Cloud State-bound LHP Danny Mokrzycki allowed one hit with seven strikeouts in his five scoreless innings. Purdue-bound Jeff Evak added a solo-shot for the Wildcats.
South Elgin 3-3, Metea Valley 4-1
South Elgin (11-10; 10-7) split a pair with Metea Valley (10-12; 8-10)

St. Charles East 8-12, Streamwood 0-0
St. Charles East (16-7; 14-4) swept Streamwood to vault to the top of the U8C-River standings on Saturday. In game one senior LHP Nick Huskisson fired a three-hit shutout at the Sabres. Huskisson homered singled and drove in two runs to lead the Fighting Saints into-first-place in the River.
In game two, senior RHP Joe Hoscheit and RHP Joe Starai combined for a four-hit shutout. Hoscheit went the first five allowing two hits with three strikeouts. Starai fired two shutout innings allowing two hits with four strikeouts. Sean Dunne led the Fighting Saints game-two onslaught with a perfect 4-4 day with a run scored and two driven in.
Batavia 3-4, Geneva 2-16
Batavia (18-5; 13-5) slipped past Geneva (15-6; 13-6) in the opener behind a seven-hitter from junior Austin VanKempen. The Bulldogs broke up a 2-2 tie on a fielder’s choice in the bottom of the sixth to win. Jack Bodine hit a solo-shot for Geneva. In the nightcap Geneva’s Mike Zarley and Jack Wassel put on a show. Zarley was 4-for-4 with a homer and four RBI. Wassel homered hit two doubles singled and plated five Viking runs.
